Summer Rewind

Happy Monday all!

As Summer slowly winds down (NOOOOO!) I’m sharing some of my favorite outfits from this season.  This Summer I fell madly in love with off the shoulder tops and wore them constantly.  I challenged myself to accept my body despite my recent weigh gain and not to fall victim to negativity (which is so easy to do, especially in the Summer). I got to visit Fort Lauderdale for the first time and had a ball at The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo in Atlanta.  While I didn’t get to the shore (that’s what we Philadelphians the call the beaches in New Jersey), I spent a lot of time lounging at the pool with my BFF soaking up the weekend Summer sun. I finally got my grub on at Smogasburg in Brooklyn and loved every single morsel that went into my mouth.   I spent breezy Summer nights swaying to reggae and soca music at rooftop parties.  Needless to say, Summer you will be sorely missed!

Have a wonderful day!

Fear Factor

Happy Monday all!

As I’ve gotten older I find myself  more open to trying new things. When I was younger I was reluctant to try things because l was fearful of others opinions of me.   That fear kept me from doing so many things in my youth.   It kept me from growing and helped increase my self doubt.  Most importantly it robbed me of my will to try. I know my fear of failure kept me from going back to school for 19 years. When I finally decided to pursue my doctorate last Fall, I was excited and eager to complete the program.  Unfortunately half way through my first semester I realized that online learning wasn’t working for me.  I missed having a traditional classroom setting where I could interact with my professor and other students. Without those interactions I felt alone and  isolated. I knew this wasn’t the educational experience I wanted. After much debate, I decided to  withdraw from the program last month.  Although my return to school was unsuccessful, I was proud that I didn’t allow my fear of failure to win.  I have absolutely no regrets about  my decision to go back to school and withdrawing from the program.   I don’t know if I’ll ever get my doctorate but if the opportunity arises I won’t hesitate to try again!

Have a wonderful day!

Almost There

Happy Monday all!

The above average temps this past weekend gave the East Coast a taste of Spring.   I took advantage of the mild weather to break out my new culottes from Eloquii.  It’s far too cold to wear culottes the way I want to so I was happy to finally get some wear out of them.   I have a couple of transitional pieces lined up that can be modified for chilly mornings and mild afternoons.   I can’t wait to wear them once the weather changes. Until that happens, these “fake” Spring days will have to do!

Have a wonderful day!

Getting It Together

Happy Monday all!

I have a confession to make, I suck at outfit planning. I can plan one for a post but when it comes to my daily life, I don’t do it.   Due to my lack of planning, I spend a good part of the morning  scrambling to put an outfit together for work.  Another downside to my lack of planning is that I don’t wear a lot of of clothes in my closet.  So, in an effort to utilize  my closet more, I’ve decided to try outfit planning for the week.  Below is sample of what I’ve already put together.  When I started putting my outfits together, I instantly felt relieved and less stressed. Now if I can work on not losing my  keys in the house, I’ll be set!

What are some of your outfit planning tips?

Have a wonderful day!

Monday:

Monday mornings are hard anyway, so trudging around to find something to wear has resulted in me doing Flo Jo like sprints to catch my train!   I’ve been wanting to wear this forest green Eloquii skirt with this Loft sweater for awhile now but I never got around to doing so.  I plan on putting together more color combos to beat the upcoming Winter blues.

Tuesday:

Tuesday is my in day at work so I can wear jeans. I think I’ve said this before, I suck at casual dressing. Usually I just throw on a top and some sneakers.  With outfit planning, I can elevate my jeans look with a fun sweater and cute flats.

Friday:

My company is having it’s annual Christmas party so I definitely want to look nice.  Eloquii gifted me a pair of their FABULOUS Kady pants a few weeks ago but I haven’t worn them yet.  I think the festive occasion is a perfect place to debut these pants.   Usually I  shy away from  wearing  form fitting pants because I don’t like how my stomach looks.  To address that issue, I’m pairing the pants with Eloquii’s faux bustier peplum top to cover my tummy.

70’s Flashback

Happy Monday all!

Apparently the 70’s are trending this Fall which is funny because it is true when they say everything old is new again. Some of my favorite memories from the 70’s are my older sisters dancing to “Soul Train” on Saturday afternoons, wearing “gauchos” (aka culottes), watching “Godzilla” movies from under a table ( I was terrified of Godzilla!)  and wearing my hair in two large afro puffs which garnered me the nickname “Mickey Mouse”.  To pay homage to my favorite 70’s memories, I decided to pull out my “gauchos” and head back in time!

Later this week, I’ll be headed to NYC to spend Thanksgiving with my family so I want to wish you all a SAFE & HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
