Print for You!

Happy Hump Day all!

So about two weeks ago, I bought my first pair of printed jeans. At first I was SO scared to buy them because a) I’m 40 b) aren’t printed jeans for young gals? c) my booty! Despite my misgivings, I tried them on anyway and you know the rest of the story! We shouldn’t allow concerns about age and others perceptions to stop us from having fun with fashion. You should have a pair of sexy jeans for date night or hanging with the girls. Printed jeans can be worn as casually as colored ones. Its all about how you style it!

So who is gonna join me and get a pair of printed jeans?!

Have a wonderful evening!

Fine Print!

Happy Tuesday everyone!  I’m posting today because I had to work late last night and by the time I got home I was pooped!

Inspired by Selah, I decided to wear my first  pair of printed pants today.  Trust me this is a HUGE deal  for me because I believed I couldn’t pull them off.  After seeing printed pants everywhere (okay not everywhere, but it felt like that  to me! LOL), I decided to dive in.  It always feels good to thumb my nose at “rules” that say plus size women shouldnt wear certain things.  I  like proving them wrong!

On a side note I will be walking the runway during Fashion Night Out next week!  This year Fashion Night Out has expanded to Philadelphia (as well as NYC and other cities) and the event (being sponsored by the fabulous Karima from the Skinny Minority)  will take place in the Downtown Macy’s  on Thursday, September 6th at 6:30pm.   Karima kindly offered me the opportunity  to participate and I graciously accepted.  I’m beyond excited to be apart of this event showcasing curvy/plus size fashion! If you’re in the area come down and support the event!

Would you dare to wear printed pants?

Have a great evening!

Casual Friday: Pre Fall Faves!

TGIF all!

I can’t believe Fall is almost here! It seems like we wait FOREVER for Spring & Summer and then it zips by.  Although I’m sad to see Summer go, Fall is one of my favorite seasons.  I always look forward to adding a few pieces to my wardrobe to ease the seasonal transition.  Below are  a few items that are on my list for Fall.  I always look for versatile pieces to mix and match with items that are already in my closet.

Polka Dot Trench from Modcloth:  Looking to replace your old trench coat this Fall? Look no further!  Pair this trench with a striped shirt and jeans to rock mixed prints and elevate your casual look.

Faux leather pleated midi skirt from Charlotte Russe: What more can I say?!  This skirt looks good on EVERY body type! Plus it’s less than $30!!!

Denim culottes from Eloquii: These definitely up your jean game a notch! Dress them up with a blouse and heels for a chic but comfy date night outfit.

Tassle earrings from Bauble Bar: These are an easy way to ease into a statement earring without going crazy. They also come in a variety of Fall colors!

Sign Me Up Gladiator flats from Nine West: This seasons hottest shoe is something EVERYONE can wear.  The rich burgundy color screams Fall and goes with a variety of colors and prints. P.S. these go up to size 11.

Carryall Tote from Gap: A tote that goes with everything is must in any closet. This bag from Gap completely fits the bill.  It’s roomy enough to go from work, school and everything in between.

Tie Neck Blouse from Forever 21: This blouse is a nod to the 70’s trend that is hot for Fall. Pair it with your faux leather pleated skirt (hint, hint!), black blazer and a pair of leopard print heels for a cool work outfit.

Women’s Plus Mid Rise Stovepipe Pants from Old Navy: OR you could wear the blouse with these CUTE leopard print pants and a pair of black loafers for a cute Casual Friday outfit!

Which of these items would you buy for the Fall?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Summer Dress Code

TGIF all!

Staying cool yet work appropriate during the Summer can be somewhat of a challenge. While some jobs have relaxed dress codes others enforce strict ones.  If you’re in such a work environment, here are a few suggestions to get around the code without sweating yourself to death!

  1. Sleeveless blouse or shell:  These are perfect under a blazer or cardigan. Pair a printed blouse under a colorful suit for a cool Summer look.
  2. Ankle length pants: Can’t wear crop pants to work? Ankle length pants are the perfect alternative. Opt for natural fiber blend with polyester or elastane to maintain pant shape.
  3. Midi skirts: Do I need to say more? Try pairing a bold color with a neutral to keep things appropriate.
  4. Slingback flats or heels: Showing a tiny bit of skin never hurt no one!
  5. “Soft” Blazers: Opt out heavy material blazers for a more relaxed silhouette in a breathable material.

What are some of the ways you stay cool yet work appropriate?

Have a wonderful weekend!

When It Rains It Pours

Happy Hump Day all!

Have you ever felt like you just can’t catch a break?  For the past few months I’ve been struggling with a spate of bad fortunate. From my new car being hit while parked to having dental work that set me back over $2000, I felt like I couldn’t catch a break even if I tried. I wanted to keep my head up but it was really hard to stay positive.  I struggled with wanting to wallow in self pity but I knew it wouldn’t get me anywhere.  Despite my misfortunes,  there were bright spots like my BFF throwing me surprise 47th birthday party. The party came at the perfect time because I was feeling so defeated about my situation.  Celebrating my birthday with my friends and family was just what I needed. For a couple of hours I was able to relax and have a great time.

Things have calmed down in the past few weeks and I’ve been able to roll with the punches. I would be lying if I said I hope things stay quiet for long time.  Like Mary J Blige said “no more drama!”

Have a wonderful day!
