Ode to Denim

Happy Hump Day all!

Who doesn’t love denim?  It’s  so versatile that you can wear it with everything and almost anywhere.  Before I started blogging, I owned  two pairs of jeans, one black and one blue.    Blogging has exposed me to  different kinds of denim and helped me to move outside my comfort zone.     I bought my first pair of colored skinny jeans last year and never looked back.    Now I have several pair including bright yellow!  I no longer hesitate to  pair denim with pleated skirts, leather jackets and graphic prints.      I hope to find a really nice denim dress to add to my collection soon.  Any suggestions?

How do you like to wear denim?

Have a wonderful day!

Weekend Edition: Girls Weekend

Happy Memorial Day all!

Memorial Day weekend here in the States is  the unofficial start of Summer.  While that might be true, the weather on Saturday was more like late March! After days of stifling humidity and 80+ degree heat,  a cold front swept in dipped temperatures in the high 50s! Although the weather was less than ideal,  I still went to see “Star Trek: Into Darkness” (LOVED IT!), ran some errands and met up with my girlfriends for dinner at Redstone American Grill.  The chilly  Saturday evening air didn’t stop me from getting a little gussied up  by wearing one of my favorite ASOS maxi dresses.  Dinner was a blast and the food was excellent.  It was great hanging out with Bridgette, Andrea, Kim and Theda.

On Sunday Latasha, Tamera and I went to Washington DC for the day.  Knowing that we were going to do A LOT of walking, being comfortable was more important that being cute!  While we did walk a lot, we had a great time together. The weather was perfect for a day in Washington DC.    By the end of the day I was completely pooped!

Here are some of the  highlights of the day.  If you haven’t been to the Smithsonian Museums definitely put it on your “to do” list.  A day was simply not enough to take in all the museums and multiple exhibits. The next time I go to Washington DC, I’m going to go for a weekend so I can see all that I missed.

How  has  your holiday weekend been going so far?

Have a great day!

Too Much of a Good Thing

Happy Hump Day all!

I have to confess…I’m  completely in love with stripes!  I own striped dresses, skirts, shirts and a blazer (yeah I know its out of control!)  I feel wearing stripes instantly transforms anything you pair it with.   So when I saw this  Dorothy Perkins  midi skirt, I was in stripe heaven!   Its funny when I look back , I used to avoid   stripes  like the plague.  Now I wear them at least once a week!   Right now  I’m on a  hiatus from stripes  but Im sure that will go out the window once I see another great striped item!

Do you love stripes too?

Have a wonderful day!

Casual Friday/Easy DIY

TGIF everyone!

I absolutely love this maxi dress as a skirt.   Since I first wore  this dress as a skirt a year ago (here)  it has become one of my favorite Summer pieces. I will probably never wear the dress because the top doesn’t  cover the girls  but that’s okay because I’m definitely getting my moneys worth!    I’ve rescued a  few of my ill-fitting  dresses from the donate pile  and made them into skirts ( here and here).  All you have to do is fold the top part of your dress and tuck it into the bottom half  to create your skirt. Add a belt to secure your skirt so it wont slide down and to cover where you tucked the top portion in.  This easy DIY is a  great way  to recycle old dresses and to get more wear out of your clothes!

Have a great weekend and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
