Casual Friday/Easy DIY

TGIF everyone!

I absolutely love this maxi dress as a skirt.   Since I first wore  this dress as a skirt a year ago (here)  it has become one of my favorite Summer pieces. I will probably never wear the dress because the top doesn’t  cover the girls  but that’s okay because I’m definitely getting my moneys worth!    I’ve rescued a  few of my ill-fitting  dresses from the donate pile  and made them into skirts ( here and here).  All you have to do is fold the top part of your dress and tuck it into the bottom half  to create your skirt. Add a belt to secure your skirt so it wont slide down and to cover where you tucked the top portion in.  This easy DIY is a  great way  to recycle old dresses and to get more wear out of your clothes!

Have a great weekend and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

What a great trick! I’m assuming it only works with a tube style dress, though? Otherwise, time to whip out the sewing maching, haha. 🙂 Love the bright colors, they always put a smile on my face! <3

Awww thank you hon! This isnt a tube dress! Just a regular wrap front maxi dress. So whip out that sewing machine! I cant wait to FINALLY meet you at FFFWeek!

Can’t wait to meet you either! Will you be going to all the events? Hanna and I picked out some of the ones we most wanted to attend, so we won’t be going to all of them (darn ticket prices add up, lol!). But regardless, I’m totes excited to meet you tooooo! It’s gonna be so much fun. 😀

Okay, I love it, but how do you wear it as a skirt? Do you simply put a little top over the top of the dress and then cinch it with the belt? (p.s. happy Friday!)

    • May 10, 2013 / 11:08 pm

Okay… I just read how you do it… but doesn’t it feel all lumpy where the top bit is folded down in to the bottom bit? And does the belt stay secure on the waistband?

      • May 12, 2013 / 4:01 pm

I do my best to smooth the top out once I tuck it in to reduce any noticeable lumps. I find when I secure the belt tight around the waistband it stays up. During the day I check it and adjust it if the belt starts slipping.

That is definitely one way to wear a dress as a skirt. Ive seen other bloggers do that but I never tried it. Now that you mentioned it, I think I will next week!

You always look to great and the colours just brighten any day. Half an hour ago, I bought a tube topped, maxi dress. Now I have another way to wear it until I find a strapless bra that works.

    • May 12, 2013 / 4:03 pm

A tube top dress is PERFECT for this! I too am looking for a good strapless bra. Let me know how your search goes!

Looks great and fits you well. I wouldn’t know it was a dress if you didn’t say so. The jacket is outstanding! Thanks for the inspiration. I am following you via bloglovin. . . .

What a lovely colour combination, red, yellow, white, blue (well.. turquoise). Looking great. Very nice outfit. But eh…. lady… why not sew it properly into a skirt? So you don’t have to check whether it still hangs right?

    • May 14, 2013 / 1:05 am

Thank you! I dont know how to sew so I have to fold the dress! LOL
