Five Things I’m Grateful For This Thanksgiving

Happy Tuesday all!

As Thanksgiving approaches, I want to give thanks to some of the things in my life. Often we don’t take time to acknowledge the people and things that we are truly grateful for.

  1. Family: My family will always be the bedrock of my life. I cannot imagine my life without them.  Despite our differences and issues, I would not be here if they hadn’t made sacrifices for me.  For that I will am eternally grateful for them.
  2. Friends: My friends are my family.  They keep me humble and don’t sugarcoat anything (right Sho?! LOL).  I am beyond grateful for their love and support.
  3. Blogging: Blogging has been at times a blessing and sometimes a curse.  Blogging has afforded the opportunity to crush negative stereotypes about aging that are so prevalent in our society. It has also exposed me to a community of amazing, intelligent and creative women from around the world.
  4. Therapy: I restarted therapy this Fall because I needed to resolve issues that have been holding me back.  I’m extremely grateful that my job has a wonderful EAP program and an extremely affordable co-pay for sessions.  I’m excited and a bit nervous about the work that needs to be done.  I am a firm believer that self care is the best care.
  5. My Readers: Without your support and love I wouldn’t be in my 6th year of blogging.  Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for continuing to follow me on this journey!

Have a wonderful day!

These Boots Were Made For Walking

Happy Monday all!

As someone with huge calves I’ve struggled to find boots to fit me. With my left calf being 3 inches bigger than my right one, finding boots that will fit both has been impossible.  When I would find a wide calf boot, it would fit my right calf perfectly but wouldn’t zip on the left (ARGGGH!). After multiple seasons of trying I gave up until this past September. During NYFW Eloquii invited me to their Fall Preview and they had these red boots there to try on. I didn’t even go near them because I didn’t want to be disappointed for the umpteenth time. After some cajoling from the Eloquii team I finally tried them on and OMG! They fit! Granted the boot is snug on my left calf but THEY FIT! Y’all don’t understand this is major for me. To find a comfortable two inch heel, sleek, expensive looking faux leather boots that fit…whew!  Red is my power color so I feel like Wonder Woman whenever I wear them.  Honestly I could go on and on about them. The only downside of the boots is that they don’t come in black (WHY?!!!)

The boots were gifted to me by Eloquii but this is not a sponsored post. You simply must go and get these boots. I promise you wont be disappointed!

Have a wonderful day!

Fall Ready With Stitch Fix

Happy Hump Day!

I am a firm believer that clothes are an expression of who you are. Clothing can lift your mood and change how you view yourself.  For some of us, this personal expression can take a backseat to other important things going on in our lives.  This is where Stitch Fix comes in.  Stitch Fix is a  personal style service that caters to your style, shape and budget.  Stitch Fix stylists comb through brands such as Eloquii, NYDJ and many others to find clothing tailored for you.  How you may ask? Stitch Fix employs a lengthy questionnaire to determine your style profile and budget preferences.  They offer clothing, shoes & accessories from $28-298 so there is something for everyone at every price point.    Typically personal style services ask a few questions then it’s up to the stylist to kind of guess what works for you. Not Stitch Fix. They test their items on real women to understand how each item of clothing will fit on real bodies. Stitch Fix carries clothing from 0-24W  and includes petites and maternity styles up to a 3X.  Stitch Fix is not a subscription based service. You can cancel at anytime without penalty.  Returns are free and each box includes a pre-paid USPS envelope to return your item.   You only pay a $20 curating fee that is applied towards the items you choose to keep. If you decide to keep everything in your box you get a 25% discount (awesome!)

For my first Stitch Fix box I wanted items that will transfer easily from Fall to Winter. I focused on cozy sweaters and blazers for layering.  I received a v-neck sweater, a cozy cardigan, a plaid shirt & the blazer in the pictures below.  Honestly my box was spot on (check out my Instagram stories for the 411 on my box!).  Many of the pieces I could easily interchange with items that are already in my closet. To be honest the only thing that didn’t work for me is the plaid shirt.  The cardigan is being returned because I already have a similar color in my closet.  Otherwise I would have kept the cardigan. I was very impressed with my first Fix and I highly recommend you give Stitch Fix a try. Click here to get your Fix on!

Have a wonderful day!

Strong Suited

Happy Tuesday all!

Over this past weekend I started transitioning my wardrobe from Summer to Fall/Winter. While I was sad to see a lot of my Summer pieces go into storage, I was comforted by the fact that I can transition many of them into the Fall.  Im proud of the fact that the  majority of my clothes are multi-seasonal.  Before I buy anything, my rule of thumb is that I have to be able to wear that item at least for two seasons.  It’s important for me to get as much wear out of my wardrobe as I can.  For example, this pink Lane Bryant suit I first wore back in February . While the suit is primarily  for the Spring I paired it with a  stripe turtleneck and a pair of sneakers to make it more Fall friendly.   To make it stretch into the Winter, I’m going to add a layer a pair of tights underneath to ward off the cold and ankle boots.  To make it even more versatile for the upcoming Holiday season, I think  wearing it with a satin  blouse, velvet clutch and gold pumps would make a colorful office party look.

I hope these suggestions will help you transition your Spring/Summer suit into the colder months.

Have a wonderful day!

Girl With Curves x Lane Bryant

Happy Hump Day all!

Although it’s officially Fall, the weather outside says otherwise. While I’m no fan of the humidity, this extended Summer weather gave me a chance to show off one of my favorite pieces from the Girl With Curves x Lane Bryant collaboration.  Back in September Tanesha from Girl With Curves launched a 20 piece collaboration with Lane Bryant. This is Lane Bryant’s first influencer collection and boy it didn’t disappoint.  The collection offers smart, beautiful pieces that highlight the plus size body.  These pieces can easily fit into every aspect of your life.  I was so excited for this collaboration because I’ve been a huge fan of Tanesha’s blog and style since 2014.  The collection symbolizes her classic yet on trend aesthetic.    When Lane Bryant graciously offered to send me  a piece from the collection, I instantly chose this belted tunic in lilac.  The tunic is such a feminine piece that instantly elevates any piece you pair it with.  It is so versatile that you can wear it to brunch and to work.  I love lilac so it was fun to pair it with other pastels for a comfortable yet colorful early Fall look.   As y’all know I love wearing bright colors all year around so this tunic will continue to be in heavy rotation even into the Winter.

If you haven’t treated yourself to a piece of the collection as of yet, I highly recommend you do so…now!

Have a wonderful day!
