Spotlight on You!

Good afternoon everyone!

Today Tamera (AKA “Le Mer”)  is our new “Spotlight on You” participant.  Tamera has been one of my biggest blog supporters and she is the photographer behind my lovely pics!  She approached me about being featured and of course I said yes!  Here’s what  Tamera had to say:

“Always wonder who takes those wonderful Grown and Curvy Woman pictures? Well, me of course, Le Mer! (LOL) Being on this journey with Georgette has been so fun and exciting. I’m so ecstatic about the notice and success of the blog. Can you believe my pictures for “Perfectly Pleated” were featured on WordPress  “Freshly Pressed”?!

I may not be “grown and curvy”, but I have learned great styling tips and am venturing out the box more. I was so excited when I found this colorful, floral maxi dress at Target for $8 (YAY!). Since I’m short, I generally have issues with maxi dresses being too long and dragging on the floor. This dress fit me perfectly and I liked that it accentuates my baby curves!

Big thanks to Georgette for trusting me with taking her pictures.”

Tamera is one of the most sweetest  people I know. She’s always has my back and I’m proud to call her a friend!

If you would like to be featured in “Spotlight on You”, please submit 1 or 2 pictures with a blurb about your outfit to ebdiva08@gmail.com

Big and Bold Trends

Happy Hump Day all!

Today I have the pleasure of featuring my first guest post! Nisha (thebigcatwalk.com) contacted me a few days ago and asked if she could do a  guest post.   Here it is!

Big and Bold Trends

With the right attire, you make a strong and vivid impression. Clothes can flatter any shape and size, if you choose with care, and dressing for work need not be a nightmare or a matter to lose sleep over. Fortunately, fashionable choices have expanded over the past few years to cater to those that need plus-size clothing. With the options now available, it is simply a matter of putting together a wardrobe that works for you as you head to work each day.

Beginning with basic mix and match styles is always a great idea. Many designers now have a vast array of tops and bottoms that can be combined to show off your curvaceous figure at its best. Pants that flatter your shape are an essential item for your closet. Plus Size Wear to Work pants come in several styles, textures and colours to make them versatile. The same applies to skirts that have dispelled the old notion that large women cannot carry them as well as any other. In colours ranging from the traditional black and grey to the current trends of bolder, brighter shades, these can be mixed with generously, yet stylishly designed blouses, revealing only what you want to reveal. Add a couple of neutral cardigans, or a selection to match your favourite colour schemes.

On the Blazer Trail

Blazers to top the look come a large variety of lengths, shapes, collars and fabrics to suit your outfit. Jacket and blazer trends now include draped, notched, ruched, long and cropped styles. Classic or cute, you need not limit yourself. If your workplace calls for the more traditional suit sets, choices abound in those classic pieces.

Curvy Elegance
Curvy figures are greatly enhanced by dresses, so having at least a few of these is a wise investment. Besides being naturally slimming, alluring designs have been created for the fuller woman. Great new styles can be found at several department store chains. Elegant Elegant and classy sheath dresses, wrap dresses, shift dresses, pleated or plain, are a simple, graceful solution for work wear.

The Art of Minimalism
Minimalism in the world of fashion refers to combining styles cleverly by incorporating simple, neutral and cleanly cut clothes into your collection and has nothing to do with being flat, monotonous, or boring. For the voluptuous woman, choosing the right textures and fabrics goes a long way in determining the total appearance and the impression her outfit makes. That does not imply dressing in shapeless, loose garments; rather, wearing colours that complement your skin tone in well-cut outlines is the key. Mullioned colours can work just as well as solid ones. Colours like black, beige, taupe, soft white, navy, brown should be part of every woman’s wardrobe, while all other shades and colours depend upon your personality and mood. You can be as bold as you wish, or as subtle as you desire.

The Finishing Touches
Last, but not the least, paying attention to accessories – from the jewellery you adorn yourself with to the purse or handbag you carry and shoes you wear – make it all come together to create the elegant woman, sophisticated yet comfortable in her own skin.  I really enjoy writing about fashion, design .

Casual Friday/Reclaiming the Booty

TGIF everyone!

I’ve been DYING for a pair of magenta colored pants for a while now, so when I saw these pants on Eloquii’s website I jumped all over them. When I put  them on, I was surprised by the snug fit around my hips and butt. As far as I could remember, I’ve always had a love/dislike (I refuse to say “hate”) relationship with my booty.   I grew up knowing I had a large posterior but  others began to notice the same once I hit middle school.    From the 6th to 8th grades I was  called “Getta the Butt” (the boy who started this proudly told me he didn’t want call me Jabba the Hut so he came up with Getta the Butt!).  Things hit a fever pitch in 10th grade  when the EU song “Da Butt” came out.  Almost on a daily basis  I was greeted by male classmates singing “Getta got a big ol’ butt…OH YEAH!”  During those years I would pray to God to deflate the size of my derrière so the teasing (and unwanted stares) would stop.  Unfortunately my prayers went unanswered and I started wearing  oversized clothes to deflect attention away from my butt.

Fast forward to 40-year-old me being flooded by unpleasant memories while trying on these pants. For a millisecond I thought about returning them but I stopped. Returning the pants will not make my booty any smaller than it is. By returning them, I would be allowing negative self-doubt to rule me again.  So  I decided to keep the pants and show off   my glorious booty!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Casual Friday/On the Road Again

TGIF!

This weekend, I’m heading home to New York City (Bronx born and raised!) to visit family and attend the BlogHer conference (I’m so excited about going!).  Whenever I go home I take the bus because  a) driving to NYC is a pain in the butt  b) New Yorkers drive INSANE (yep I said it!) and  c) there is no parking in my sister’s neighborhood.  Plus, I don’t like to drive at ALL.    If I had my way people would have the ability to beam everywhere like they do on “Star Trek”!

Whenever I travel in the summer, I either wear shorts or a maxi dress for comfort.  Since I’m  leaving right after work, I went for the maxi dress.  This  Old Navy maxi dress is colorful, lightweight and very comfy.  I got it a year ago for my family vacation to Las Vegas  and it quickly became my favorite dress.  I   paired it with my multicolored beaded necklace from the Avenue and wood cuff.  When I initially bought the necklace, I didnt have anything to wear with it, so it just sat in my drawer.  When I got the dress, I instantly thought of this necklace and the rest was history!

What do you like to wear when you travel? Have a wonderful weekend!

Dress: Old Navy

Necklace: the Avenue (I bought it a year ago)
