My Life on Instagram

Happy Tuesday all!

Yesterday Hurricane Sandy  wrecked havoc in my area but  I made it safely through the storm.  Things are slowly getting back to normal and Sandy has moved on! Good riddance!

Some of you that follow me on Twitter know that I am also on Instagram.  I always wanted to put my Instagram pics on my blog but WordPress didnt allow it…until yesterday!   To celebrate this I wanted to share some of  my favorite Instagram pics with you!

If you are on Instagram, please follow me at grownandcurvywoman!

Have a great day!

You Aint Nothin But A Hounddog

Happy Hump Day all!

Confession time, I didn’t know there was anything such as dogstooth.  I’m assuming its the  half-brother/sister of houndstooth being that the latter gets all the attention. Either way, when I saw this dogstooth pencil skirt on Simply Be’s website with 50% off, I had to make it mine.  Pairing the skirt with red seemed like a natural choice although  I could see myself wearing a cobalt blue with it in the future.   I wanted to add some  “edge” up my look so I wore my faux leather jacket from Kohls to “toughen” it up  (Me tough?! Ha! I still sleep with a night light! ). If the jacket looks familiar to you, I wore the green one here.  Lets just say, I’m slightly enamored with the jacket  🙂

I want to thank all of  you for your wonderful and encouraging  comments on my previous post “Change is Gonna Come”.  This might sound a little corny, but I feel closer to you ladies after reading your responses.  Again thank you for being the BEST readers in the world!!!

Are you a fan of dogs/houndstooth?

Have a great evening!

Happy Monday everybody!

I should be relaxing on my day off  but  instead I’m trying to finish up my  “To Do” list from the weekend.  When I usually  run errands  I wear jeans, sneakers and a sweater because its quick and easy.  Today I updated my errand “uniform” because you can be stylish and comfortable while going to the grocery store.  Instead of wearing jeans, I wore red cords for a pop of color. I decided to substitute the sweater with a denim shirt.   I slipped on leopard print flats which are just as comfortable as  my sneakers.  By making these simple changes  my boring errand “uniform” turned  into a cute outfit.

Do you have an errand “uniform”? If so, how would you make it more stylish?

Have a wonderful day!

Casual Friday/Denim on Denim

TGIF everybody!

Denim skirts and I have a temperamental relationship.  I love them but whenever I try one on, it never seems to fit  right!  Either the skirt gapes in the waist  or has too much stretch in it which causes the skirt to rise way above my knees when I walk.  After trying on several of them, I going to give up until I saw this dark rinse skirt on Lands End’s website.  Since I had a 30% off code, I decided to take a chance and ordered it.  When I got it I immediately put it on and I was not disappointed! The skirt is the perfect fit and length for me.  The skirt  has  elastic bands at the waist that eliminates gaping (the elastic waist is completely unnoticeable). There is right amount of stretch in the skirt that stops it from rising above my knees.

I paired my skirt with my polka dot denim shirt from Old Navy (go get this shirt!), red flats for a pop of color and a sliver  chain necklace to finish off my Casual Friday look.  The skirt is currently on sale here with an additional 30% off.  Happy shopping!

Have a wonderful weekend!

An Evening with MYNT 1792

Happy Monday all!

On Friday I was invited by PLUS Model Magazine and Mynt 1792 to view their Fall 2012 collection. To have the opportunity to see their new collection was too tempting to pass up! Plus size women want a plethora of choices for clothing. We don’t want to be confined by having only a select few brands. That is why I was so excited to be invited to this event!

Mynt 1792 knows what the curvy consumer wants and isn’t afraid to give it to us.    I was very impressed with the selection of clothing that was shown.  The collection is very much on trend but it is versatile to meet the consumers lifestyle.  Many of the items were transitional (able to wear to work or out with friends). I was also impressed with the quality of material used for the clothing.  We curvy women know all too well about poorly and cheaply made clothing.  Mynt 1792 cares about giving us quality fabrics that will allow longevity of the item.  If I’m spending over a $100 for a blazer or jacket, I need to know I can wear if for several years to come, not just one season.  Mynt 1792 gets this and it was evident in their designs.

I had the pleasure of attending the event with Corrinn of The Fuller Figure and Colleen of Short Curvy Fierce. Not only are these ladies stylish and beautiful, they are SO fun to be around! Corrinn and Colleen kept me in stitches all night long! All the photos in this post were wonderfully taken by Corrinn. As you can see, she is a natural with the camera! Also present was my Chicago blogger buddy Jaye of Curvatude. I love talking and hanging out with her! She is one of the sweetest people I know!  I bumped into Yve who was apart of the Fashion Night Out event I participated here in Philly. It was great catching up with her and seeing her wonderful smile!

Mynt 1792 Fall Collection will be available online at mynt1792.com and Nordstrom (online only) starting October 1st. Please check them out, trust me you will like what you see!

Have a wonderful day!
