Spring Trends Part I: Black & White

Happy Monday everyone!

Over the weekend I agreed to participate in Nel’s (Girls of Plenty) challenge for  plus size bloggers to interpret the Spring 2013 trends. Nel was inspired to start the challenge after reading an article from Bethany Rutter of  Arched Eyebrow (read the article here).  Each week during the month we will feature our take on various trends like florals, leather and emerald.   I’m  very excited to see how other plus size women will interpret the  trends.   The challenge is a great opportunity for us to showcase our individual style. The other bloggers participating in the challenge are Deb from Real Girl Runway, Vivi from Heart, Print and Style, the Curvy Ceo and Society of Curves.  Check them out during the challenge to see their weekly take on the Spring trends.

Today’s challenge wasnt  too hard because what woman doesn’t have black and white in her closet?!  I decided to mix black and white prints together for my take on the trend.  For some reason I really like the pairing of polka dots and stripes together.  This is as far as I’ll probably go with the mixing print trend.  I’m not very good at putting different prints together so I’ll just stick to what I know! 🙂

How would you interpret this trend?  If you’re game I would love for you to join me in this challenge!  If you would like to participate email your pics to girlsofplenty@gmail.com and you will be featured right along with us!

Have a great day!

Casual Friday/ Goodbye Eloquii & Wild Berry

TGIF everyone!

Yesterday I was saddened to find out that Eloquii (The Limited’s plus size brand) was phasing out at the end of the summer. When I first heard about The Limited’s venture into the plus size market a year ago I was very excited. Their clothes in my opinion were well made and fit into all aspects of my life, especially work. Plus size women have different styles and want variety in our clothing to fit our personal tastes. To assume all plus size women dress the same is absurd. Eloquii provided another option for quality and stylish plus size clothing. In the end, I really hope another company buys the brand and continues Eloquii. It would be a shame to lose another plus size retailer, further shrinking our already limited clothing options.

Here are some of my favorite Eloquii outfits:

My outfit today is inspired by a comment made by Nicole from A Well Rounded Venture on Monday’s post. Her comment ” I keep hearing people say leopard is a neutral-it must be true!” got me thinking about other colors I could wear my blouse with. I usually wear leopard print with colors like brown, black or burgundy to be safe. I wanted to switch it up, so after rummaging through my closet I decided to wear it with my purple pencil skirt and magenta blazer. I was very happy with this departure from my typical leopard print outfit. I really liked the print with berry colors. Nicole’s comment helped me to break out of wearing only dark colors with leopard print and remix my wardrobe! Thanks Nicole!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Busy Bee

Happy Monday all!

Usually my weekends are slow but this past weekend I was quite the busy bee!

On Friday Shonna (my BFF) asked me to judge a talent show for her students and I accepted.  There’s nothing like being around a bunch of 18-20 year olds to remind you how old and out of step you are! I couldn’t understand half the songs the DJ was playing and the dancing….WOOOOO! Lets just say it gives the term “bump and grind” a whole new meaning! LOL

On Saturday evening, Shonna and I decided to get gussied up and head downtown for dinner.  We went to foodie favorite  Oyster House and proceeded to happily stuff our faces with wonderful seafood.  The lobster bisque I had was the best I’ve tasted in a long time.  Shonna is a  seafood aficionado  so when she gave it a big thumbs up I knew I did a good job picking the restaurant.

Here is what I wore Saturday night:

One of my new year resolutions was to get out more and meet new people.  So I signed up for Mahogany Philly on Meetup and went to my first event at the National Constitution Center on Sunday.  The National Constitution Center is a fairly new museum that is dedicated to the history of the US and the Constitution.  Im huge museum nerd and I like to take my time wandering the exhibits so I knew I had to be comfortable.  I kept things colorful and  wore my favorite straight leg jeans, colorful striped tee and a neon cardigan.  I had a great time with the ladies of Mahogany Philly.  I’m looking forward to attending more of their events and meeting  more people!

Me & Gwynnie Bee

Happy Hump Day all!

Today my BFF invited me to a lecture given by actor Hill Harper (CSI:NY) at the university where she works.  Luckily I didn’t have to worry about what to wear because I received my Gwynnie Bee package yesterday.  In my package was a  geo print faux  wrap dress from INC (sold at Macy’s), so I decided to wear it to the lecture.  This is my second go around with Gwynnie Bee.  I initially subscribed to Gwynnie Bee back in December but decided to cancel my subscription due to my dissatisfaction with the clothing .  After receiving an email from Gwynnie Bee  offering another subscription trial, I decided to try again.

The wonderful thing about Gwynnie Bee is that you have access to all kinds of clothing from various different brands.   I had my eye on this INC dress for a while and when I saw it on Gwynnie Bee’s site I scooped it up.   It’s clear the dress is made for the Spring because the fabric is thin and light. The dress was too big at the top so to avoid  my bra being exposed,  I wore a black tank underneath.  The A line skirt flows and doesn’t cling to your lower half.  The geo print is very trendy and stylish but  appropriate for the workplace.

If you like having a huge wardrobe of clothing at your disposal then definitely head over to Gwynnie Bee!

Have a wonderful evening!

P.S. I want to thank my handsome 12yr old godson for taking my pictures today!
