Fine Print!

Happy Tuesday everyone!  I’m posting today because I had to work late last night and by the time I got home I was pooped!

Inspired by Selah, I decided to wear my first  pair of printed pants today.  Trust me this is a HUGE deal  for me because I believed I couldn’t pull them off.  After seeing printed pants everywhere (okay not everywhere, but it felt like that  to me! LOL), I decided to dive in.  It always feels good to thumb my nose at “rules” that say plus size women shouldnt wear certain things.  I  like proving them wrong!

On a side note I will be walking the runway during Fashion Night Out next week!  This year Fashion Night Out has expanded to Philadelphia (as well as NYC and other cities) and the event (being sponsored by the fabulous Karima from the Skinny Minority)  will take place in the Downtown Macy’s  on Thursday, September 6th at 6:30pm.   Karima kindly offered me the opportunity  to participate and I graciously accepted.  I’m beyond excited to be apart of this event showcasing curvy/plus size fashion! If you’re in the area come down and support the event!

Would you dare to wear printed pants?

Have a great evening!

Casual Friday/Reclaiming the Booty

TGIF everyone!

I’ve been DYING for a pair of magenta colored pants for a while now, so when I saw these pants on Eloquii’s website I jumped all over them. When I put  them on, I was surprised by the snug fit around my hips and butt. As far as I could remember, I’ve always had a love/dislike (I refuse to say “hate”) relationship with my booty.   I grew up knowing I had a large posterior but  others began to notice the same once I hit middle school.    From the 6th to 8th grades I was  called “Getta the Butt” (the boy who started this proudly told me he didn’t want call me Jabba the Hut so he came up with Getta the Butt!).  Things hit a fever pitch in 10th grade  when the EU song “Da Butt” came out.  Almost on a daily basis  I was greeted by male classmates singing “Getta got a big ol’ butt…OH YEAH!”  During those years I would pray to God to deflate the size of my derrière so the teasing (and unwanted stares) would stop.  Unfortunately my prayers went unanswered and I started wearing  oversized clothes to deflect attention away from my butt.

Fast forward to 40-year-old me being flooded by unpleasant memories while trying on these pants. For a millisecond I thought about returning them but I stopped. Returning the pants will not make my booty any smaller than it is. By returning them, I would be allowing negative self-doubt to rule me again.  So  I decided to keep the pants and show off   my glorious booty!

Have a wonderful weekend!

All Good Things Must Come to an End

Happy Monday everyone!

Today is my first day back at work after being on vacation for a week.  I always struggle with  transitioning back into work  mode after  a great vacation .  I walk around the office pouting and procrastinate going through email from  the previous week.   I  sit at my desk and  daydream  about my vacation and begin plotting  my next getaway.

Getting  up this morning was a small feat because I wanted to  stay in bed so badly!   I knew if  called out  I would only be delaying the inevitable.  So I forced myself to ignore the urge to call out  and headed into the office.  I kept  my outfit simple  by pairing my  yellow pencil skirt with my newly acquired black & white striped top.  Ive always  liked the combo of yellow and black together.  I figured a pop of color would  help lift  my back to work blues.

How do you get back into “work mode” after a vacation?
