Casual Friday with a Touch of Glam

TGIF everyone!!! Was it just me or did this week drag on and on ? And what’s up with this weather?! It’s going to be 62 degrees today. That’s bonkers! I was sweating in my wool coat & scarf this morning. Darn El Niño!

Today is all about being casual but I wanted to inject a little glam into my outfit. I got this beautiful bubble necklace from Mikkat Market yesterday and I was dying to wear it. I love how it instantly elevates my green blouse (although in the pictures it looks teal), chocolate brown corduroys and denim blazer into something chic. You will definitely see this necklace again!

What pieces do you have that instantly glam up an outfit?

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Michelle and Me

Happy Hump Day all! Hope the week is treating you good so far. I have goodies arriving tomorrow from Mikkat Market, Eloquii and ASOS! Cant wait to see how everything fits and incorporate it into my wardrobe.

I didn’t get to watch the State of the Union address last night because I was working (trust me, I’m paying for it now!). I was dying to see what Michelle Obama wore. As usual she didn’t disappoint. I don’t simply like her…I LOVE her. If I were ever to meet Mrs. Obama the conversation would go something like this:

FLOTUS: Hello Georgette
ME: I love youuuuuuu…*sob*
FLOUTS: Ummm, thank you?
ME: Bwaaaaah…
FLOTUS: Secret Service!!!

Why do I love her so? Because she is an unapologetically strong black woman. She doesn’t cater to the whims of others just to be liked. She supports and loves her husband fiercely all the while raising two well-mannered girls. Even when the media tries to reduce her to some stereotypical caricature, she rises above it.

Mrs. Obama is my style icon. Her taste in clothes is impeccable. She is aware of what looks good on her body. While she follow trends, she doesn’t overdo it. She is a curvy woman who embraces her shape. I like that her style isn’t inaccessible. She will mix J.Crew and Thakoon in a heartbeat!

So today I’m getting my “Michelle on”. I think my dress is  Michelle Obamaish in the mix of  colors. The dress also has a mod feel to it. Any dress with pockets is a friend of mine.    I topped off my look with my faux pearls .

What do you think?  Do you incorporate Mrs. Obama’s style into your own?

Feeling Retro

Good morning all! I hope everyone had a good weekend. I was cooped up in the house on Saturday due to the snow storm. After a day of watching bad Lifetime movies, I was so happy to get out of the house on Sunday. I had dinner plans with four of my close friends. I had a great time catching up with my girls. There’s nothing like good company, food and wine to lift ones spirits. My GNO girls are the best!

This dress is one of my favorite pieces of clothing. I bought this dress years ago at JCPenney. It has a 40’s retro feel to it. I love how the dress print mixes gold, purple and teal. The fluttered sleeves, belted waist and tie neck details also contribute to its vintage vibe. The dress is very comfortable and flows easily.

I paired the dress with my suede teal Natrualizer pumps. I wanted to bring out the teal in the dress plus I’ve been looking for a reason to wear the shoes!

What items in your closet give you a retro feel?

Style Is What You Make It

TGIF all!!! Today is payday so I’m feeling extra good! LOL It’s supposed to snow tonight so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. The forecast is predicting 1-3 inches here in Philadelphia but that usually means 2-6 inches! Look I’m not complaining. This time last year we were on our 3rd or 4th snow storm, so the fact we are only expecting a minimal amount of snow is not a problem for me.

Earlier this week I was questioning whether I was “stylish” enough to be blogging. I began over critiquing my clothing choices and wondering if they were “blog” worthy. I was driving myself crazy with self-doubt until I said “STOP!”. I had forgotten that this blog is about me loving myself & how I express that through fashion. I don’t have to categorize or define my style. I wear clothes that fit my body and complement my curves. I wear what feels comfortable to me. I do follow trends but to a degree. I’m going to dress how I see fit. If people like it great and if not that’s alright too.

Lately I’ve been having an affair with blazers. I can’t seem to get enough of them! Recently I’ve fallen in love with bright, colorful blazers. When I saw this Eloquii cobalt blue blazer I knew I had to have it. I was a little skeptical about buying it because my top is a size smaller than my bottom. I finally decided to order a size down and with my fingers crossed (and being 40% off didn’t hurt either!) I ordered it. I’m glad I got the 14/16. The blazer fits great . It’s a knit blazer so there is some stretch to it. I’m very happy with my purchase!

Use What You Got…Part 2

Happy Hump Day!!! Hope your week is going well so far. Mine has been okay. No complaints here though. I’m looking forward to the rest of my week being event free.

Since I vowed to “use what I got”, I’m determined to combine items from my wardrobe to create outfits. I challenged myself to put together an outfit without using black, grey or navy blue. That decision eliminated 90% of my wardrobe. Ack!!! I didn’t realize how many dark color pieces I had. Before, I would just throw on a dark pair of slacks with a turtle neck and black boots. I wore this “uniform” practically everyday during the Winter. I’m more conscious of this “uniform” now and I’m breaking myself out of the habit.

So I combed through my wardrobe to see what I could come up with. I combined my mustard yellow Old Navy cardigan with my brown Lee trousers and my red Ann Taylor Loft blouse. Since the cardigan has become big on me, I cinched the waist with a leopard print belt that was apart of a Julie Dillon dress (Nordstrom carries her plus size dresses). I topped the look off with my gold tear drop earrings, gold bracelet from Lord & Taylor and brown suede Enzo Angiolini wedges. No dark colors! Mission accomplished!

What items from your closet are you combining?
