Skirting the Issue

Happy Monday all!

Someone asked me recently if I ever wear pants. I replied “of course I do”. She responded “oh, because all I’ve seen you wear is skirts!”. Now I could look at that exchange in two ways: 1) she  REALLY must be paying attention to what I’m wearing or 2) I do wear skirts all the time. I have to admit, the latter is the truth.  Why? Wearing skirts allows me to get in touch with my long dormant girly side.  For the majority of my adult life, I didn’t care how I looked and being in direct care social work gave me the perfect excuse to justify my bland uniform (jeans or cords and a sweater). I would convince myself that it wasn’t practical to wear skirts especially if I had to chase or restrain a client.  I really believed  if I wore one I would be inviting unwanted attention and comments. So to avoid any possible negativity, I rarely wore a skirt. Back in those days, the only thing I wanted to do was hide and not be noticed.

When I finally decided to accept my body,  I went out and bought my first  pencil skirt. I was no longer going to be in “hiding” and vowed to wear skirts whenever I felt like it. I learned quickly that I preferred skirts over pants, something the old me would’ve run from.  Now don’t get me wrong,  pants have their place (you wont see me shoveling snow in a skirt!)  but skirts have my heart!

Have a wonderful day!

That’s like saying you have too many shoes; or too many books! LOL

I prefer skirts too, I’ve never been a jeans and tshirt girl! Skirts are just cuter 🙂 You have a fantastic collection of skirts, so she probably is paying attention to what you’re wearing and who can blame her!

I too prefer skirts. They just don’t bind the way pants can. I feel more professional and yet feminine wearing skirts or dresses. My true preference is a dress. Fast and easy.

I completely agree! I too feel more feminine wearing a skirt. I just cant get enough of them!

Skirts are so much fun! I adore your polka dot outfit and the black and white skirt!! Being from Russia, I used to almost always wear skirts and dresses (pants were so much less common in my wardrobe in my 20s). I rediscovered skirts just recently and have tons of fun wearing them these days too!

I love that you always wear skirts…so do I. Skirts and dresses make up the majority of my work wardrobe, and people often ask me why I “dress up” so often or don’t wear pants, but I don’t care…I wear what I want to wear and that’s that. Keep rocking the skirts too 🙂 P.S. I adore the polka dot combo above…polka dots are my favorite!

Thank you! I completely agree when you say “I wear what I want to wear and that’s that”. People for some reason are more intimidated when you “dress up”. I dont know why that is! Im just looking good! 🙂

I adore skirts and dresses and if I could wear them every day, I would. I suppose I can, but it’s so cold now that I opt for pants over my beloved skirts/dresses. I can’t wait for winter to get on out of here so I can wear my skirts and dresses again. Btw, you looks totally fab in your skirts.

Love, love, love skirts. Until I was in my mid-20’s I never wore skirts or dresses but there is something lovely and feminine about them. I wish I had worn more girly outfits when I was younger.

P.S. You look fab in all these outfits!

Hi there….found your page via links from Facebook. Stayed because your style matches mine plus we are in a similar age group. Never thought could look fun/stylish/modest on a budget and over 30. You fixed all that. PS I’ve just cut off the relaxed hair and joined local running group. You do good work and love to travel. I’m from Panama, live in US and have traveled to Spain and Netherlands.

You have a great collection of skirts! It was jeans and a knit top for me in my direct social work days. I too prefer skirts & sometimes feel like I am the only woman wearing skirts at work.

Thank you! I feel like that too! My co-workers are always asking me if Im going on a date!

You are so beautiful. And what an awesome array of skirts! This is my first time seeing your blog. It’s funny; I’ve always hidden myself in frumpy jeans and hoodies, since I’m so large. I started wearing dresses a year ago, and not only are they more comfortable and more flattering, but so easy! I wish I’d known this years ago!
