Bathing Beauty

Happy Monday all!

Bathing suit season is quickly approaching which can cause anxiety for some of us ladies.   For many years I would avoid wearing a bathing suit and when I did, I would only wear a suit with a skirted bottom. I honestly thought the skirt was hiding my thick thighs and bodacious booty (it wasn’t lemme tell ya! LOL)   So while on my cruise last August, I decided to throw caution to the wind and go without a skirted bottom.  This was the first time I had ever conjured up the nerve to venture out without a skirted bottom. At first I was scared because my security skirt/blanket was gone but after  a while I completely forgot about it.  After that I decided to never go back to a skirted bottom.  Uncovering my lower half was another step in accepting my body, thick hips and all!

Now that I’ve “liberated” my hips (lol), I’m looking  for new swim suit for the Summer. Plus size swim wear has come such a long way.  Now there are chic, trendy choices for suits that still provide coverage and support.  There are now bathing suits with fun prints and bold colors to reflect your personality.  Below are a sample of some of the fantastic options out there.  Which one is your favorite?

TGIF all!

Last night I had the pleasure of attending Monif C’s preview of her new swimsuit collection “My Beach Is Better”.   If you are not familiar with plus size designer Monif Clarke, please let me introduce you! Monif C is known for clothing that allows plus women to feel gorgeous and sexy.  Her creations are curve loving and blow all  fashion “rules” for plus size women out the window.  This is also true for her latest swimsuit collection.  You’ll find no garish floral print and unflattering silhouettes here! These suits are all about flaunting your wonderful body without worrying about what others think.

Here are a few swimsuits from the new collection:

A black & white swimsuit is high on my Summer “must have” list so when I saw this geometric print suit, I was in love!

I gotta give a shout out to my Philly crew, Colleen of Short Curvy Fierce and Yve for making the trip to NYC so worth it. Whenever we get together we always have a great time and last night was no different. Thanks Colleen and Yve for hanging with me!

30+ Style Collaboration: The Tutu

Happy  Hump Day all!

When I found out that the tutu was going to be the next 30+  Style Collaboration, I was like “no way Jose!”.  I’ve seen multiple bloggers looking wonderful rocking a tutu but I couldn’t see myself doing it.  I’ve accepted there are some trends that are just not for me (me and harem pants will NEVER mix!) and I had put  tutus in that category….until now.  As we all know, sometimes rising to a challenge helps us to grow as a person. Participating in this collaboration  helps me shatter the myth that women over 40 don’t have fun with fashion…yes we do! We like to be on trend just like everyone else!  Dont let that  “dressing your age”  crap stifle you and stop you from looking your absolute best.  Remember….STYLE HAS NO AGE OR SIZE!

Check out how the other bloggers in the 30+ Collaboration styled their tutus!

Casual Friday: Spring Renewal

TGIF all!

Winter is FINALLY outta here! Woo hoo! Although the temps aren’t Spring-like yet, I’m just grateful it’s here!

This year the arrival of Spring has a lot of meaning for me.  In my post   Shining Through, I touched on some of the emotional issues I’ve been dealing with.  Besides my family and close friends, no one knew that behind my smile I was dealing with crippling anxiety and depression. Knowing I didn’t want to live like that anymore, I made the decision to  seek help to address my “stuff”.   Since the season is all about renewal and change, the growth I’m experiencing is sort of a Spring cleaning of the soul.  I’m learning how to let go  of fear, resentment and anger which is helping me change my perspective on life.  I’m renewing my self-confidence and resiliency that were temporarily interrupted.  Making change is HARD but I know I’m blessed and fortunate to see another Spring!

What does the arrival of Spring mean to you?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Spring Trends to Wear Now…Pastels

Happy Monday all!

How was everyone’s weekend? Great I hope! As you can see, I got a new haircut and color! I made the decision to retire my mohawk on Friday and luckily my hairdresser had an opening on Saturday afternoon.   I absolutely LOVE my new color and I can’t stop smiling about it!

In my post “3 Trends To Try This Spring”, I talked about how pastels are going to be HOT for the season.  With Spring a little over a week away, you can make them apart of your wardrobe now. Try picking a pastel  (pink, yellow and blue are my favorites) that looks good on you.  Once you find colors that work, pair them with neutrals to ease into the trend.  Also wearing colors that historically work well with each other (ex. blue and yellow) is another simple way to wear the trend. I’ve always loved the combo of pink and green together, so I incorporated them into my work outfit today.

Will you be giving pastels a try this Spring?

Have a wonderful day!
