Casual Friday: Jean Day

TGIF all!

Since I don’t have to go to court today, I can finally wear jeans to the office.  In the Summer  I usually ditch jeans because of the heat & humidity but the unseasonably cool temps of late have created the perfect conditions to wear them.  The jeans I’m wearing today are from Lane Bryant .  Ever since I got them I cant stop wearing them.  It’s hard for me to find jeans I really like and fit me well so when I do find a good pair, I wear them constantly.  These jeans are so comfortable and fit my curves wonderfully.  What completely sold me is that they don’t gap in the back which means I don’t have to keep hitching  them up to cover my booty.  The only downside is that they only come in one color. I wish they came in more colors so I could buy all of them! Until that happens, I’m gonna wear these  lovelies until they fall apart! LOL

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Foxcroft Style Stars!

Happy Monday all!

Sometimes working  as a  public servant can be a difficult and thankless job.  Professions such as teachers often get a lot backlash but no one notices  the commitment and pride the vast majority of them have about the work they do.  Foxcroft  in partnership with L’Appartement Prive Salon treated 20 teachers from P.S. 31 in Brooklyn, NY  (a 2009 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence !) to a wonderful make over to show their appreciation for what they do.

“We are thrilled to have the women of P.S. 31 Brooklyn participate in our Style Stars project,” says Tom Dietrich, President of The Apparel Group, the parent company of Foxcroft. “This project reflects our ongoing effort to support teachers for their hard work in educating our children.”

The teachers were treated to hair consultations and styling by celebrity hair stylist Laurent Dufourg  and a custom Foxcroft wardrobe.

“It was nice to be pampered and recognized for the work that we do in a totally different way,” LouAnn Gallo, who has taught at P.S. 31 for 15 years, said. “It was a really positive experience.”

When Foxcroft contacted me to see if I would share this story, I was happy to oblige.  I’ve collaborated with Foxcroft in the past and can honestly say the quality of their clothing is top-notch.  They were kind enough to gift me their camo print blouse and trust me it will be in HEAVY rotation this upcoming Fall and Winter.

30 Plus Style: Trending, Dresses Over Pants

Happy Hump Day all!

Being in the 30 Plus Style collaborative has definitely stretching the boundaries of my style.  Back in the Spring it was a tutu and  now  a dress over pants.   Ive seen pictures of this trend but mostly on the runway and on street style stars.  While it looked good on them,  I became concerned that I wouldnt  work on me and I would end up looking like a bag lady.   So I took to my beloved Pinterest to find inspiration and to find  how to wear the trend stylishly.  What I got from the pins  is that slim or skinny leg pants  and A line dresses seem to be the best combo when venturing into this look.  After some serious closet digging I decided to pair an old dress over  straight leg jeans. I added heels to lengthen my legs and balance out  the proportions.  My ripped jeans (which I cannot stop wearing!) added to the  bohemian vibe of the dress.  Honestly I don’t know if Ill wear this trend again but it was fun to try something new and a little scary!

So what do you think? Would you wear a dress over pants?

Please check out the other lovely ladies of 30 Plus Style and our guest blogger Els from XL Fashion File to see how they tackled the challenge!

Practice What You Preach

TGIF all!

Since eShakti’s   tropical floral print crop top and skirt debuted earlier this Summer I’ve been smitten.  So when  eShakti contacted me about reviewing one of their  items I knew I had to have it.   But when it  came time to order I got cold feet.   I was allowing thoughts about being “too old” for a crop top hinder me from trying something new.   I finally decided to practice what I preach and make the trend work for me.   I had eShakti  customize the set to my measurements and changed the skirt  from above the knee to midi length (my favorite!).   I’ve had dresses customized by eShakti in the past and this was by far  the best job they’ve done. The  crop top overlaps with the high waist skirt so my wobbly bits (yes I’m quoting Bridget Jones!) aren’t exposed.  I found the skirt  a bit too long but a trip to the seamstress will fix that.   I’ll definitely  get a lot of wear out of the set, especially the skirt.  I’m really proud of myself for not giving into negative thinking.  If I had stuck to a safe option, I would’ve been kicking myself later on for being a chicken!

What  Summer trend have you tried that was a move outside your comfort zone?

Have a wonderful day!

Redbook’s Real Women Style Award Winner!

Happy Tuesday all! I’m SO happy to (finally!!!) announce that I am one of the winners of Redbook Magazine’s Real Women Style Awards! This is such a huge honor for me because I never thought I would  ever be in a fashion magazine.  I cried so hard when I found out I had been chosen. I remember when I thought I was disgusting and ugly because I was plus size.  I’m so grateful that God showed me how to accept my body and stop being ashamed of it. I now have an appreciation of the blessings I’ve been given even on my bad days.  My wish is that being in Redbook will inspire one woman to accept her body and celebrate it!

Synchronized Skirts

Happy Monday all!

One of the best things about being apart of 30 Plus Style collaborative is getting to know these ladies beyond blogging.   I quickly learned that  Jeniese from The Jenesaisquoi and I have similar fashion tastes.  For example we both fell head over heels with  Eloquii’s striped flounce skirt.  I first peeped this skirt during Eloquii’s event during Full Figure Fashion Week in June and I was smitten.  So when Eloquii graciously offered the skirt to me I was like “yes!”  And wouldn’t you know, Jeniese picked the same skirt too!  So we thought it would fun link up and show you how we styled our favorite skirt! As they say “great minds think alike”!

Head over to Jeniese’s blog to check out her wonderful sleek style!

Have a wonderful day!

Lane Bryant: Chalk It Up To Style!

TGIF all!

I was so excited when Lane Bryant approached me to host one of their “Chalk It Up To Style” events in the Philadelphia area.  I’ve been shopping  at Lane Bryant since I was a teen and continue to shop there to this day.  So it’s fitting that my first time hosting an event is with a retailer that has been in my life forever!   On top of hosting, Lane Bryant asked if I would style an outfit appropriate for an educator.  I instantly thought of  the vice principal of my elementary school  who I remember was always dressed in a sleek skirt suit.  While I was completely terrified of her as a child (lets just say I spent ALOT of time in her office! LOL),  I loved her suits! So this outfit I put together pays homage to her chic, vice principal style!

If you are in the Philadelphia area, come hang out with me at Lane Bryant’s 69th Street store in Upper Darby, PA today from 5-8pm.  If you’re a teacher or educator bring your school ID or pay stub to receive 40% off your purchase.  Not an educator? Still come by for a chance to win a $250 gift card from Lane Bryant!  I hope to see you there!

My Window Pane

Happy Hump Day all!

I love window pane print so when I saw this IGIGI maxi I was like “YES!” IGIGI has always been good to me and this dress doesn’t disappoint. For me having a good, versatile dress in my wardrobe is a must.  This dress definitely has what I’m looking for especially now that Fall is just around the corner.  I can see myself transiting into chilly temps  with ankle booties and a moto  jacket. And when those cold, mid-November days arrive, I’ll layer it with a thick turtleneck and wear it as a skirt! Now that’s what I call versatile!

Have a wonderful day!

30 Plus Style:Celebrity Inspired Plus Edition

TGIF all!

Welcome to the latest 30 Plus Style collaboration!  As the title states, our outfits today are inspired by our favorite celebrity.  For this 30 Plus Style installment,  I didn’t even have to think twice about the celebrity who inspires my style. Ever since Michelle Obama stood by her husband’s side as he announced his candidacy back in 2007 I’ve been hooked. Her classic, effortless style has impacted the way I dress and carry myself. My friends will joke that I’m  “getting my Michelle Obama on” if I wear something similar to her. So when deciding what to wear today, I went to Michelle’s signature pencil skirt and kitten heel combo (our love for skirts make us kindred spirits! lol).  I’d like to think she would wear this outfit on a special dinner date with Barack . Whaddya think?

Please check out the other lovely ladies of 30 Plus Style to see which celebrity inspired their look today!
