Just Alittle Neon

TGIF!!! I hope everyone has amazing plans for the weekend. I’ll be watching the Super Bowl at my BFF’s house. She & her hubby are Giants fans, so I’ll have to listen to their gloating if the Giants win (Nooo!!!). I’m a native New Yorker but I’ve been in Philadelphia since 1996 so I identify more with the Eagles than the Giants.

So neon is making a comeback? I remember wearing pink neon socks with “Frankie Says Relax” t-shirts back in the 80’s when I was in junior HS . You couldn’t tell me I wasn’t “funky fresh” …LOL!!! This is when I began to love wearing color. I would wear all kinds of bright neon colors together(I was color blocking ahead of my time!). All my mom could do was laugh and shake her head. There were plenty of days when I left the house looking like Rainbow Bright!

My outfit today pays homage to my neon beginnings. Some people are afraid to wear neon colors but if you keep it simple you can pull it off. Start by pairing neon colors with dark bottoms or wear with neutrals. Take baby steps and before you know it youll be wearing neon like a pro!

Will you be following the neon trend this Spring/Summer? If so, what colors will you wear?

These are a few of the items Im swooning over for Spring. Spring to me is all about vibrant color. I can’t wait until the first day of Spring (March 20th!!!) comes so I can wear these dresses.
What items are you “swooning” over for Spring?
Take care!

Viva Viola!!!!

Happy Monday all! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Mine was pretty good. My only gripe is that the weekend is too short. I think we should start a national campaign to make Monday apart of the weekend. Who is with me?!!!

Okay I have to gush over Viola Davis. I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t think she had a chance of winning best actress because of Meryl Streep. I was pleasantly surprised when she won. I’ve been a fan of Viola Davis’ work since her reoccurring role on “Law & Order: SVU” back in 2003. She has largely been relegated to supporting roles but she always brought her A game no matter the content. In 2008 she received her first Oscar nomination for “Doubt” only after appearing on the screen for EIGHT MINTUES. That’s how good she is. I hope the Academy recognizes this again and gives her long awaited due.

After reading Jessica Kane’s (fatshionchic.blogspot.com) post about stepping out of her comfort zone, it inspired me to do the same. I’ve always been convinced that soft, flowy dresses were not for me. I believed that those kind of dresses made me look bigger. So when I came upon this Ellen Tracy dress at Nordstom Rack, I was hesitant but the mix of purple, blue, red and black snake print made me chuck my apprehension aside (there are also flecks of green throughout the dress). The sheer poet sleeves are feminine and soft. The dress came with a fabric tie belt but I opted to wear my Eloquii Obi belt for more definition. I paired the dress with my red beaded Old Navy necklace and my Lela Rose for Payless peeptoe booties (I scored these for $19 during the Christmas holiday).

What inspires you to step out of your fashion comfort zone?

Casual Friday with a Touch of Glam

TGIF everyone!!! Was it just me or did this week drag on and on ? And what’s up with this weather?! It’s going to be 62 degrees today. That’s bonkers! I was sweating in my wool coat & scarf this morning. Darn El Niño!

Today is all about being casual but I wanted to inject a little glam into my outfit. I got this beautiful bubble necklace from Mikkat Market yesterday and I was dying to wear it. I love how it instantly elevates my green blouse (although in the pictures it looks teal), chocolate brown corduroys and denim blazer into something chic. You will definitely see this necklace again!

What pieces do you have that instantly glam up an outfit?

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Michelle and Me

Happy Hump Day all! Hope the week is treating you good so far. I have goodies arriving tomorrow from Mikkat Market, Eloquii and ASOS! Cant wait to see how everything fits and incorporate it into my wardrobe.

I didn’t get to watch the State of the Union address last night because I was working (trust me, I’m paying for it now!). I was dying to see what Michelle Obama wore. As usual she didn’t disappoint. I don’t simply like her…I LOVE her. If I were ever to meet Mrs. Obama the conversation would go something like this:

FLOTUS: Hello Georgette
ME: I love youuuuuuu…*sob*
FLOUTS: Ummm, thank you?
ME: Bwaaaaah…
FLOTUS: Secret Service!!!

Why do I love her so? Because she is an unapologetically strong black woman. She doesn’t cater to the whims of others just to be liked. She supports and loves her husband fiercely all the while raising two well-mannered girls. Even when the media tries to reduce her to some stereotypical caricature, she rises above it.

Mrs. Obama is my style icon. Her taste in clothes is impeccable. She is aware of what looks good on her body. While she follow trends, she doesn’t overdo it. She is a curvy woman who embraces her shape. I like that her style isn’t inaccessible. She will mix J.Crew and Thakoon in a heartbeat!

So today I’m getting my “Michelle on”. I think my dress is  Michelle Obamaish in the mix of  colors. The dress also has a mod feel to it. Any dress with pockets is a friend of mine.    I topped off my look with my faux pearls .

What do you think?  Do you incorporate Mrs. Obama’s style into your own?
