Topsy Turvy

Happy Hump Day all!!! I can’t believe half the week is over already!

Unbeknownst to me my outfit today is opposite of an outfit I wore here. As you can see I’ve switched the black pants to the blazer & the pink blazer to the pants. These are the first pair of pink pants I’ve EVER owned. Since starting this blog, there have been a lot of “firsts” for me. Stepping out of the box and not being afraid to try different things has broadened my horizons. My new motto is “claim it and own it”. The fear of what others think or say is eroding everyday. There is freedom in allowing yourself to let go and forget about the bullshit (sorry for the cussing!). I look forward to many more “firsts” and I hope to share them with you!

What are some of your “firsts” this year? Have a great day!!!

Bright Monday

Happy Monday everybody! Hope you had a great weekend. I dared to venture out on St. Patrick’s Day and had a great time with my girls. The weather was beautiful and the laughs were plentiful!

Monday is always tough because I immediately begin to wish for the weekend. To combat my Monday Blues I wanted to wear something bright & cheery (although I’m FAR from being bright & cheery at 6:30am!!!) . I decided to wear my neon floral blouse from the Gap Outlet and my neon green cardigan from Old Navy. The blouse is colorful but not loud and is really pretty. I wanted the colors of the blouse and cardigan to be the center of attention, so I kept it simple with black slacks and wedge heels. I added my sliver necklace & earrings to finish off the outfit.

What do you do to combat the Monday Blues? Have a great day!!!

TGIF everyone!!! Hope you have great plans for tonight and the weekend. I was off today so I have a three day weekend! Yay!!!

My outfit today is inspired by an amazing blogger LuAnne (www.weeshasworld.com). About a week ago I was feeling rather daring so I ordered a pair of purple skinny jeans from Macy’s. When my jeans arrived last Friday afternoon , I instantly began to regret my decision. The old negative thoughts came rushing back once I tried them on…”Youre too big to wear these jeans”..”My ass is too fat for these”…”I’m too old to wear this!”. Next thing I knew I was putting them back in the wrapping to return them. I decided to think about whether to keep them or not. Since I subscribe to LuAnne’s blog, I saw that she wrote a post about being plus size and wearing purple skinny jeans! Reading her words inspired me to stop tearing myself down. I put the jeans back on but this time I didn’t skewer myself. After a second look, I realized I looked good in these jeans! The jeans aren’t tight or uncomfortable. They stretch so I’m not confined or stiff. The color isn’t too bright or dark. I felt so good about myself in these jeans that I wore them to work on Tuesday (I’m not in court on this day, so I can wear jeans). I got so many compliments from various people. Tamera (aka Le Mer! LOL) took my picture for Pose and my outfit was chosen to be featured! If I had listened to the negative thoughts I would’ve been taking two steps back. I can’t live my life worrying about what others may think or say. I wasted ALOT of my adult life doing this. Live YOUR life and LOVE who you are!

Thank you LuAnne for your post and inspiring women to love themselves no matter what! Have a great weekend!!!

Spring has Sprung!

Happy Hump Day everybody! Since the weather has been AMAZING my spirits have totally lifted. It feels wonderful to walk in the sun without shivering from the cold or worrying about snow storms.

Spring is my favorite time of year. I love everything about it from the warm breezes to the blooming flowers. Spring is about transformation of my style from Winter to Spring. This Spring I’m focused on patterns and ruffles to show my girly side. What better way to demonstrate that by wearing Eloquii’s polka dot ruffle dress! I think it’s the perfect feminine dress to usher in my new Spring wardrobe. It’s pretty, fun and flirty. It’s a dress you can wear anywhere and feel comfortable. You can add different colored belts to make it pop. I added Eloquii’s red belt and a neon yellow twisted bead necklace to complement the dress.

What does Spring mean to you? Have a great day!!!

Dorothy Perkins

Happy Monday all!!! Hope everyone had a fun weekend. My weekend was really good, so I can’t complain. I watched the Oscars last night and while I was disappointed that Viola Davis didn’t win , Meryl Streep is fantastic! I wasn’t a fan of Maria Rinaldi’s dress for Melissa McCarthy. It just didn’t fit her right and I felt the blush color did nothing for her. Octavia Spencer’s Tadashi Shohji dress was beautiful but she looked a little matronly. Viola on the other hand blew me away with her gorgeous Vera Wang dress and natural hair. As someone who wears her hair natural it was amazing to see her do this on the biggest red carpet in the world.

For awhile now, I’ve been mulling over whether or not to order from Dorothy Perkins. For those who don’t know, Dorothy Perkins is a UK clothing retailer that goes up to a size 18. What propelled me to finally take the plunge was their black ivory spot peplum dress. I instantly fell in love with it! I had been looking for a peplum dress and this fit the bill perfectly. I checked out their sizing chart before I ordered and the measurements for an 18 looked like it would fit me well. With fingers crossed, I ordered that dress along with the coral V neck peplum dress and black floral print wrap top. Lemme tell ya, I was not disappointed in the least. I LOVE my dresses. The coral dress is snug on my hips but that’s something that can be remedied by a little exercising (I started running yesterday with Black Girls Run & I ran over a 1/2 mile without stopping! Yay me!). The black and ivory peplum dress fits wonderfully & hugs my curves in all the right places (there will be more on this dress on Wednesday!).

Today I’m wearing the floral print wrap top. I like how the colors stand out against the black background. While the top fit me in the waist, the V neck gaped exposing my bra. To be honest, I didn’t feel like sending it back to the UK so I put on a black lace cami underneath. I think the lace cami is kinda flirty under the top. It is a pretty blouse that can be worn with skinny jeans or jeggings to dress it down. I paired the top with my curvy fit pencil skirt from Eloquii to keep the outfit proportioned. I finished the look with off my black Target necklace and H&M bracelt.

Has anyone else bought clothing from Dorothy Perkins? Have a good evening!!!!
