Perfectly Pleated

Happy Hump Day!!!

As you have probably noticed, I love skirts. I have almost every style except a pleated skirt. When I was 18 years old, short pleated skirts were all the rage and I wanted one. I asked my mom to buy me one and she said no. When I asked why she said my hips and butt were too big and the skirt would make me look bigger. I remember instantly feeling bad about my body and wishing I could be smaller so I could wear the hottest trend. Looking back I knew my mom was coming from a place of love and concern but that stayed with me up until this day. So when I saw this pleated midi Eloquii skirt on sale with an additional 30% off, I decided to put that memory aside and go for it!

In person the skirt is more a sand color and not too light. My concerns about the pleats adding volume to my lower half were erased after putting it on. I think the pleats flatter my curves and don’t cling to my hips. The only downside is that the skirt is about an inch or two larger in the waist (I ordered an 18). This is not a deal breaker for me because a trip to the tailor will fix this(remember the tailor is your BFF!). The skirt is lined so it’s not sheer. Since its a neutral color, you can play around with different tops and accessories to achieve the look you want. I wore a lightweight denim shirt from Old Navy and gold accessories to compliment the skirt.

Would you wear a pleated skirt? Have a great day!

Casual Friday/Keeping Cool

TGIF!!!

Today is all about keeping cool and wearing light fabrics. I love the warm days of summer, but when it becomes a brutal furnace outside all I want to do is stay inside. Since I don’t have that option I scoured my closet to find the easiest and lightest things to wear. I paired my neon-ish yellow tee-shirt and my orange print maxi skirt (formerly a dress!) together for a colorful yet cool combo. I added my blue necklace just for a pop of color.

What are your go to items to combat the heat? Have a great weekend!

Sonsi “BeYOUtiful” Blogger Party

Happy Hump Day!!!

Last Friday, I was invited to Sonsi Blogger “BeYOUtiful” Pop Up party as apart of FFFWeek. This was my very first blogger function and I was beyond excited to be invited. The energy in the room was warm and positive. It was great to mingle with fellow bloggers and meet new people. There were giveaways, spa stations and yummy breakfast food (loved the mini waffle on a stick!). Brands such as Catherine’s, Sydney’s Closet and SWAK were also present giving us a sneak peek of their Fall lines. These brands are committed to the plus size consumer and take us VERY seriously. I was able to speak to a few of them and was excited to see what they have in store for us.

For this event, I wore my colorblock maxi dress from Eloquii which I got many compliments on. As you know I love maxi dresses and this dress doesn’t disappoint!

This was my last FFFWeek event and I was glad I decided to come. Attending FFFWeek was a wonderful experience that made me feel proud to be a curvy woman! I cant wait until next year and I hope to see YOU there too!

Have a great day!!!

FFFWeek 6/14/12 Pt. 1

Happy Monday all!

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending my first Full Figure Fashion Week! I have SO much to show you that one post will not be enough! I attended the Building Your Brand Through Social Media workshop moderated by Marie Denee (the Curvy Fashionista and one of my blogging heroes!). On the panel was Marina Zelner (Queen Grace Collection, fabulous plus size clothing), Alissa (from Stylish Curves, one of my favorite blogs) and Madeline Figueroa-Jones (EIC of Plus Model Magazine which features gorgeous plus size women). I learned SO much from the panel. Being at this workshop inspired me to think of the bigger picture and aim high. These women are intelligent, insightful and business savvy. They offered so much knowledge and insight into the various aspects of blogging. After the panel, I felt more empowered and will put what I learned into practice.

The highlight of the day was meeting bloggers who welcomed me when I first started blogging and bloggers I truly admire. Rebecca (from The Plus Side of Me),Olivia (from Wait Until Sunset), Nicole (from A Well Rounded Venture) and Izzy (from Izzy Gets Bizzy) embraced me and showed me a lot of love. They are WONDERFUL amazing women with such style and class. It was my honor to have met them.

Below are pictures from the panel. I forgot to get my nephew to take a picture of my outfit. I wore a tribal print Calvin Klein dress, DKNY denim blazer with accessories from Macy’s. I will be posting the Bloomingdales fashion show portion of my first day tomorrow. Have a wonderful evening!!!

Going Native

Happy Hump Day!

The great thing about trends is that you can pick and choose one that works for you. I’ve been eying the tribal print trend for a while but couldn’t find a piece that would ease me into it. This skirt from Old Navy was the perfect way for me to introduce this trend into my wardrobe. The print is color friendly so you can mix it up a bit. Surprisingly the material isn’t thin or flimsy. Another plus is that it has POCKETS! You can wear this skirt for work with a blazer and a blouse (like moi!) or casual with cute flats and a v neck tee.

What trends are you willing to try? Have a great evening and don’t forget my Simply Be Tuxedo Jacket giveaway ends tomorrow, so enter here!
