Casual Friday/I Wish Pt. 2

TGIF all!  I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July yesterday!

You know the saying “be careful for what you wish for, you just might get it!”? Well my wish to wear shorts to work came true today! Yay! Since my courtroom is closed for the holiday, I can take advantage of the Summer dress code in my office.    Although I can wear shorts, I still work in a courthouse so I had to keep it business casual.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Monday all!

As you ladies (and some gents!) know I love wearing prints but when it comes to printed pants I pause.   I tend to be self-conscious about my ample hips and printed pants would definitely highlight them.  I bought a pair of  printed Eloquii  pants back in January  with every intention of being brave and wearing them but I just couldn’t do it.

While browsing the  Pose application on my phone a few weeks ago I came across the beautiful Natalie of The Tiny Closet wearing this wonderful outfit.

In Natalie’s post, she talked about her apprehension towards wearing prints. Among the reasons she cited for passing them over was the possibility that wearing them might not suit her build.  Eventually Natalie decided to wear a bright print skirt (which she made!) and paired it with pieces that allowed the print to stand out.   Natalie’s post got me to thinking about my neglected Eloquii pants.  She and I have similar misgivings about wearing print but by her willingness to step outside her comfort zone, Natalie was able to overcome her apprehension.  The post really resonated with me because I know stepping outside your comfort zone can be  scary but the payoff is that you grow as a person. I decided to put aside my fears and wear my printed pants.    Surprisingly  I didn’t feel as self-conscious about my hips as I thought I would.  No one ran out of their house screaming  “HIPS!!!”.  Natalie’s post inspired me to overcome this small hurdle.   It feels good to not to be  self conscious about wearing printed pants.

Please check out Natalie’s blog for more fabulous looks! Have a great day!

Casual Friday/Full Figure Fashion Week Pt. 3

TGIF all!

I wasn’t able to go to the Independent & Retail designers showcases  this year (which are THE most important events of FFFWeek) because they conflicted with the Blogging While Brown conference I attended (I was one busy gal last week!).  So the Bloomingdales event was the only fashion show I attended during FFFWeek.   The designers showcased are labels that are carried in Bloomingdales size department so I wasn’t expecting high concept fashion to come down the runway. There were definitely outfits I liked and could see myself wearing. Here are my  favorite looks from the show:

Of course the highlight of my evening was meeting people I admire and respect for the work they do in  the plus industry.  Women like Madeline Jones (EIC of Plus Model Magazine) are working  hard to change negative perceptions of plus size women in the fashion world so we can stopped being ignored and marginalized.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Weekend Edition: Full Figure Fashion Week Pt. 1

Happy Monday all!

First I want to apologize for my lack of posting last week.  I was in  NYC for  Full Figure Fashion Week and the Blogging While Brown conference, so needless to say I was pooped!  Last Wednesday, I was invited to the Lane Bryant Blogger Conference with several other awesome bloggers.  At the breakfast I finally got to meet Dani from DIYFATSION   (who is such a sweetie in person!), Meaghan from Little Lime Dress , Bella from Bella Styles and CeCe from the Big Girl Blog (you must check out her amazing blog!).  I also got to reconnect with the lovely Parker from Everyday Runway 365, the sweet Rebecca from The Plus Side of Me and bubbly Oliva from Wait Until the Sunset (who is THE life of the party lemme tell ya!). .

In the afternoon, Lane Bryant treated us to a delicious  lunch to discuss their plans for  their A/W collection.  They explained that they are  committed to  providing fashionable and trendy clothing to plus size women.  During the Q&A poriton of the presentation Lane Bryant was open to all the comments/suggestions  bloggers had about their line.  They gave us a sneak peek of their upcoming A/W 13 collection and I can say I’m truly excited about the direction they are taking.

I had a completely different outfit planned for the blogger conference but at the last minute  dress I wanted  to wear  didn’t fit (that’s what I get for not trying it on at the store!).  Luckily I packed  my Lane Bryant skinny jeans  so they saved the day!

Stay tuned for  more FFFWeek recaps this week!

How was your week/weekend?

Have a great day!

Happy Monday all!

After a quiet weekend, my girlfriends and I decided to head out Sunday night. It’s been awhile since we’ve gone out dancing. Back in the day, we would club hop until the wee hours of the morning and get into all kinds of mischief. Now when we hang out, we’re calling it a night at 10:30pm! While club hopping has lost it’s luster, once in a while we like to get gussied up and head out to shake our groove thangs! LOL

How was your weekend?!

Have a great day!

P.S. Check me and other awesome bloggers out at London Times’  Savvy Summer. Sign up for their newsletter for a chance to win $1,0000! How cool is that?!
