Jibri Spring 2014 Collection

TGIF all!

As you probably have noticed, various designers have been releasing their new Spring collections. Jibri the fashion forward plus line by Jasmine Elder debuted an AMAZING collection this week that is so stunning and bold, I had to share. Every season I look forward to her collection and she never disappoints. Here are a few of my favorites from her awesome collection:

Casual Friday: Midi Mania

TGIF all!

First I want to thank everyone who submitted suggestions in my last post. I meant so much to see how many people have taken interest in my blog.  So again… thank you!

Finding the right skirt for your body can be tricky.  For me over the knee skirts don’t work because of my shelf booty.  After having people tell me that they could see my Spanx from behind, I had to give them up.  So when the midi length trend ushered in a few of years ago, I quickly jumped on it.   I had finally found a skirt length that worked for my body. Midi skirts are a classic wardrobe staple and is perfect for someone who doesn’t like short skirts but still wants to show some leg (ME!).  They are flattering on women of all sizes and ages.  Now that the midi is here to stay, you can find them in a variety of colors and prints.  I like dressing up my midi’s with a blouse and dressing them down with a t-shirt and denim jacket.  Next time you wear your skirt, pair it with a cool sneaker or a peep toe pump for some variety.   If you are a little on the short side, a midi might be too long but try one anyway.  You can always have it hemmed to the length you desire.  Remember, fashion “rules” are meant to be broken. Wear what feels good to YOU!

Here are some  links to my favorite midi skirts: Simply Be, Talbots Woman, Modcloth, ASOS Curve, Eshakti, and Dorothy Perkins (they go up to size 18).

Have a wonderful weekend!

Etsy Gold

Happy Hump Day all!

Ever since I  stumbled across Etsy months ago, I’ve become smitten with stores like Clutched and CoveredLove Cortnie (wonderfully handmade clutches),Jibri (fashion forward plus size clothing that will make you swoon!) and many more.

Now that I finally found a good seamstress, I’m always on Etsy looking for fabric for more projects. During one of my searches, I came across  Chimzi Fashion and instantly fell in love with the fabric of the skirt I’m wearing today.   The wonderful mix of primary colors was definitely what I was looking for. I’ve been wanting an African print skirt for a while now, so it felt good to finally make it a reality.  Trust me, this beauty is gonna be in heavy rotation this upcoming Spring and Summer!

Are you a fan of Etsy? If so, what are some of your favorite stores?

Have a wonderful day!

Casual Friday: Creating Options

TGIF all!

A few weeks a go, I was feeling really frustrated by the lack of stylish clothing for plus size women.  As an avid Pinterest follower, I’m constantly wishing the clothes I see on other women were available in my size.  Now don’t get me wrong, plus size fashion has improved dramatically BUT more change is needed.  I would love to see Tibi like full skirts and Peter Pilitto inspired printed dresses for us. Big girls like nice clothes too!

In the middle of my mini tantrum, I decided to take matters in my own hands and contact my blogger buddy Taja of Curvy Urbane (who is a seamstress) to make the clothes that I want.  Since I’m crushing on full skirts, I wanted her to make me a printed one. I met with Taja and we went over the contract and she told me how many yards of fabric I would need.  Armed with that info, I went to Mood Fabrics (yes I watch Project Runway!) with my nephew who helped me pick out this lovely cotton voile fabric.  Taja’s prices for labor are affordable and within reason (she charged me $25 for labor, which included taking my measurements, fittings, ironing and alterations).  Combined with the price of the fabric, the custom skirt cost less than most skirts I own.  I was so pleased with how it turned out, I dropped off new fabric today for another custom skirt! So if you’re in the Philadelphia area and are looking for a good seamstress, definitely give Taja a call.  I promise you wont be disappointed!

V Day Look Book

Happy Saturday everyone!

I hope youre having a wonderful weekend so far! About a week ago, a reader requested I do a Valentine’s Day look book. Honestly a look book wasn’t on my radar but she inspired me to do one, so here it is!

V Day Dinner with the Girls:

Some of my best V Day memories are with my girls.  A girl’s night out celebrating calls for a sparkly skirt and colorful heels.  Your fab outfit will have heads turning all night long!

P.S. This is my V Day outfit!

V Day Dinner at Home

Having V Day dinner  at home for many people is a better option than sitting in a crowded restaurant.  Being comfortable doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style! Try a trend (like mixing prints) to elevate your casual look. And remember…romance can happen anywhere!
