Casual Friday/Rainbow Bright

TGIF everyone!

This morning  I woke up to a cloudy, dreary day.  To add further insult to injury, the weather reports are predicting that  Hurricane Sandy will make landfall early next week! UGH!  A cranky  Georgette is not a good Georgette (LOL!)  so wearing this vibrant outfit  was just what I needed to lift my spirits.  As you probably have noticed, I love color.  There is something about putting on a brilliant hue that  instantly makes me feel better. Instead of having a scowl on my face this morning, I was smiling.  Sure I got a few  “what the hell is she wearing ”  kind of stares on the train platform  but I didn’t care.  All I know is that I felt good and in the end that’s all that matters!

What are some of the ways you improve your mood?

Have a wonderful evening!

Casual Friday/The Emancipation of Me

TGIF everyone!

When I woke up Thursday morning I was pleasantly surprised to see myself on the WordPress homesite as apart of “Freshly Pressed”. I was honored to have been selected. The amazing comments that followed made me feel even more grateful. I want to thank EVERYONE who viewed and/or commented on my “Perfectly Pleated” post. Your comments mean so much to me because this time last year I was not the confident, smiling woman you see. I didn’t like myself and would bombard myself with hurtful thoughts. The way I dressed mirrored how bad I felt inside. I would wear frumpy, unflattering clothes because I felt ugly and wanted to hide my body. This began to change after having surgery to remove a 20lb tumor from my abdomen in November 2011. As I recovered from my surgery at home, I did some real soul searching. The outpouring of love from family, friends and co-workers helped to me stop hating myself. I decided to banish all negative thoughts about myself. I threw every piece of frumpy clothing I owned in the trash. I was not going to be that Georgette anymore. I was going to be the Georgette I always knew lived in inside of me. From that point on, Ive never looked back and couldn’t be happier.

Again, thank you for being wonderful and have an awesome weekend!!!

Sugar & Spice and Everything Nice!

Happy Hump Day all!

I wanted my outfit today to be a complete 360 from what I wore on Monday. I decided to embrace my girly side by wearing this wonderful layered midi skirt from ASOS . As you know I’m all about keeping cool but professional when it comes to work wear. This skirt fits the bill because the material is light and fluid. I like how it seems to float when I walk. Like most of my skirts, it’s a tad big in the waist but I can live with it. It felt natural to pair my pink blazer with this light blue skirt. You can’t go wrong with that classic combo! I like keeping things simple (especially in the Summer) so I went with my white sleeveless blouse to wear under my blazer. To complete my girly look, I added my faux Michelle Obama pearls (as my friends call them!) and teal suede pumps (totally out of season but they work with this outfit so here they are!).

How do you embrace your girly side?
