Smart Layers

Happy Monday all!

During the Winter  I’m always trying to finds ways to layer  without turning into the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man.   A couple of Summers ago I layered a dress over a pair of jeans as apart of a style challenge so I thought I give it a whirl again.  After going through my closet, I picked an old striped dress that I had stopped wearing it because it comes above my knees.  While the  length of the dress didn’t work for me bare legged, it was perfect for layering over a turtleneck and straight leg pants.    Once I put everything on, I didn’t feel bulky or constricted.  This layering trick will   keep you warm and stylish during the frigid months.  It’s also a great way to incorporate your favorite Spring dresses into your Winter wardrobe.

Getting It Together

Happy Monday all!

I have a confession to make, I suck at outfit planning. I can plan one for a post but when it comes to my daily life, I don’t do it.   Due to my lack of planning, I spend a good part of the morning  scrambling to put an outfit together for work.  Another downside to my lack of planning is that I don’t wear a lot of of clothes in my closet.  So, in an effort to utilize  my closet more, I’ve decided to try outfit planning for the week.  Below is sample of what I’ve already put together.  When I started putting my outfits together, I instantly felt relieved and less stressed. Now if I can work on not losing my  keys in the house, I’ll be set!

Monday:

Monday mornings are hard anyway, so trudging around to find something to wear has resulted in me doing Flo Jo like sprints to catch my train!   I’ve been wanting to wear this forest green Eloquii skirt with this Loft sweater for awhile now but I never got around to doing so.  I plan on putting together more color combos to beat the upcoming Winter blues.

Tuesday is my in day at work so I can wear jeans. I think I’ve said this before, I suck at casual dressing. Usually I just throw on a top and some sneakers.  With outfit planning, I can elevate my jeans look with a fun sweater and cute flats.

My company is having it’s annual Christmas party so I definitely want to look nice.  Eloquii gifted me a pair of their FABULOUS Kady pants a few weeks ago but I haven’t worn them yet.  I think the festive occasion is a perfect place to debut these pants.   Usually I  shy away from  wearing  form fitting pants because I don’t like how my stomach looks.  To address that issue, I’m pairing the pants with Eloquii’s faux bustier peplum top to cover my tummy.

Casual Friday: Don’t Forget About Me

TGIF all!

On Tuesday I participated in Lane Bryant’s Twitter chat with their hashtag #AskLaneBryant.   I tweeted “And while we’re uplifting younger PS women, don’t dis older women. We have style & want nice clothes too.”  Often when the state of plus size (PS) fashion is brought up, women over 40 are automatically left out of the conversation.    We are looked upon as lacking style and treated as some punchline.   It doesn’t help when the PS offerings for older women are dreadful and depressing as hell! It erroneously perpetuates the myth that  style dies once you hit 40. Thats is a load of crap! PS women over 40 are just as stylish and on trend as our younger sisters.  We want clothing that reflects our REAL lives, not the lives designers think we live.  The PS fashion industry has improved dramatically over the years and there are more options for us than ever before.  There is room at the table for older women to be apart of the conversation.   PS fashion should be for ALL of us, not just our younger sisters.   While the PS community champions for body diversity in our society, we also need to do the same for older women  to combat stigma surrounding aging in our community.   Older PS women need to see stylish, mature women like themselves represented too.  Just like our younger PS sisters, we too want to be acknowledged and seen as the beautiful women we are!
