Happy Monday all!

My Pinterest Faves is back and today I am featuring the extremely stylish Blair from  Atlantic Pacific! I’ve been an avid follower of Blair’s blog for years and was so delighted when she agreed to be featured.  Her luxurious and polished outfits have filled many of my Pinterest boards. Blair could wear a paper bag and make it look chic! She takes classic staples (that we all have in our closets!) and elevates them by adding her signature touch.  I love how Blair adapts trends to fit her style aesthetic, not the other way around.  No matter what she wears, Blair remains true to her unique style. This is one of the many reasons why Blair is one of my Pinterest Faves!

Casual Friday: Speak Out!

On Wednesday I made the decision to watch the  body cam video of  the University of Cincinnati police officer shooting Sam DuBose. I  couldn’t brush off the feeling that I needed to know what happened to him.  I didn’t watch the Sandra Bland video because emotionally I wasn’t ready.  Watching  what transpired between the officer and Sam DuBose has left me hurt and angered.  Their deaths have deeply affected me because they are no different from me.   I’ve switched lanes without using a signal.  I have driven my car around without a license plate.  I’ve been pulled over  by police and have questioned them as to why I was being stopped.  Never would I think any of these interactions could end in my death.  For whatever reason, something inside those officers felt like aggressive, deadly force was the only way to resolve the issue.  I can’t stop thinking that if they saw Sandra Bland and Sam DuBose as human beings, they would be here with us today.

I sincerely hope this post doesn’t offend anyone but the persistent issue of police brutality is weighing heavily on me and I had to speak out.

Take Only What You Need!

Happy Monday all!

Over the weekend I had to the pleasure of attending BlogHer’s annual conference with my blogger babes in NYC. When I was packing for the conference I challenged myself to only bring enough clothes that could fit into a weekend duffel bag.  I decided to scale down after lugging a nearly 60lb suitcase Bermuda and not wearing half of what I brought. After that experience,  I vowed to stop over packing.  So here is what I took away from my scaled down packing experience:

1. Gotta Limit My Shoes: When I went on my cruise, I brought six pairs of shoes with me and only ended up wearing two pairs! Can you see what was wrong with this picture! LOL  When I was packing for BlogHer I knew I was going to be doing a lot of walking so there was no need for fancy shoes. So I limited myself to two pairs of flat sandals. I wore one pair traveling to NYC and packed the other pair. Yay me!!!

2. Learned To (FINALLY!!!) Pack Light: I would see article after article about packing light and would think “I can’t do that!”  Packing light became easy  once I stopped stressing myself out about “what am I going to wear!”  Instead I focused on bringing clothing that could be worn multiple ways without compromising style. I also challenged myself not to buy anything new for the conference and only shopped my closet for what I needed.  In the end I only  took two midi skirts, a dress and two shirts for my four day stay in NYC. No more 60lb bags for me!  Go me! Go me!

3. I’m A Proud Repeat Offender:  Basically the outfit I arrived in was the one I left in! This way no extra clothes were packed! YES!!!

I would love to get your packing tips or tricks that I can use.  I have another vacation coming up in the Fall, so I need all the help I can get!
