Day Tripping: Linvilla Orchards

TGIF all!

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve always wanted to go apple picking.  It is the quintessential Fall activity so when Tamera invited me to go to Linvilla Orchards I readily accepted.  Honestly I didn’t know what to expect.  I thought we would go,  some pick apples and then head home.  Boy was I wrong!  You can easily spend hours wandering around the orchard.  I was surprised to learn that apple picking is a BIG deal here in Southeast Pennsylvania. The orchard was packed with families, college students and couples on dates.  It was cute seeing little kids pulling around red wagons filled with their apples.  I felt like a little kid walking through the orchard choosing which Pink Lady or Fiji apple to pick.  TJ was so  excited he nearly  picked an entire tree! After we finished picking our way through the apple orchards, we headed over the Farm Market. This is where ALL the action was at.  In the Farm Market area there were hayrides,  pony rides (Tamera was scared of the ponies! LOL) and a pumpkin patch where you could pick your own pumpkin.  There was also an outdoor food court where we got a late lunch because we were starving after picking all those apples!   After we filled our bellies, we headed over to the pumpkin patch. TJ was able to pick out two small pumpkins to decorate for Halloween which made his day.  After we got quarts of fresh cider (you cant come to an apple orchard and not buy cider!) we took our tired but happy butts back to Philadelphia.

So if you havent had the experience of apple picking, do it. It’s a great afternoon activity to do with friends and family.  I plan on making apple picking my new Fall tradition.

I love looking to my fellow bloggers and Pinterest (of course!) as a source for outfit inspiration.  I’m trying to become more creative with what I already have in an effort to cut down on shopping (the struggle is REAL y’all!).  Looking their stylish ensembles give me  new ideas about how to style an outfit.  They’ve inspired me to try different clothing combinations and color schemes to revitalize my current wardrobe. Return of the Pooch

TGIF all!

Raise your hand if you’re like me and struggle to find a decent pair of jeans. Jeans apparently don’t like my booty so I struggle every year to find a good pair.  The last time I found a really good pair of jeans was over 2 years ago so I was about due for another pair.  In my search for a new pair of jeans, I came across these high waist pair from Eloquii. Usually I stay clear of  high waist jeans because I’m super self conscious about my lower belly. Since I’ve gained weight, my lower belly protrudes more and is very noticeable in pants.  I almost didn’t get the jeans because of my pooch but I decided to try them anyway.  Of course when I put them on they fit and looked great on me. The jeans have enough stretch that allows me to move around comfortably and they don’t gap in the waist (yay!). Yes my pooch is showing but the fit of the jeans trumped my issues with my lower belly.  Now I’m not saying I’ve made peace with my pooch. I strongly believe if you don’t like something about yourself, you should change it so I’ve begun working out to reduce the size of my pooch.  But until that happens I’ll continue to wear these high waist jeans, pooch and all!

Philly Mural Love Pt. 1

Happy Monday all!

When I first came to Philadelphia back in 1994, it was my first time living outside of New York.  Philadelphia was so foreign to me because all I knew was NYC.   During my first semester of graduate school, I was so homesick I barely left the confines of Penn’s campus.  Eventually my homesickness faded and I began to move around the city. While exploring Philadelphia, I noticed gorgeous murals in different parts of the city.  They were larger than life works of art that breathed life to spaces that were often blighted and grim. These world renown murals are free and accessible to everyone (which art should be). Some contain social messages that speak to challenges the communities they inhabit face. Others convey messages of hope and love which the idea of Philadelphia is based on.  As the years have progressed, the murals have become woven into the Philadelphia experience.  Just ask any Philadelphian which mural is their  favorite and they will tell you.

To help celebrate  Mural Arts Month I’ll be highlighting some of my favorite murals from around the city.  I hope they bring you as much joy as they have given me.

Five Trends To Try This Fall

Wow, I cant believe Summer is almost over! While I won’t miss the oppressive humidity, I will miss bright sunshine, impromptu pool parties and dining al fresco.  With Fall being a month away, the September issues of your favorite magazines are teeming with new trends for the upcoming season.  I think trends are a fun way to update and modernize to your wardrobe.  You can pick and chose which one that works for you.  I tend to gravitate towards trendy pieces that I  can easily incorporate into my existing wardrobe.  I usually pick one or two pieces for the season.  The Fall trend I  definitely have my eye on are bomber jackets. The bomber jacket appeals to me because I can wear it with almost anything and it’s something I can wear even when it’s no longer “fashionable” to do so.  I also like it as my casual go to jacket with a pair of jeans and sneakers instead of a trench coat.

With that in mind, below are five trends I think would kick start your Fall wardrobe into high gear!
