Prabal Gurung x Lane Bryant

Happy Hump Day all!

I had to share with you Lane Bryant’s upcoming collaboration with mega designer Prabal Gurung!  Prabal Gurung joins the list of high end designers such as Lela Rose, Christian Siriano and Sophie Theallet who have created exclusive collections for Lane Bryant customers.  These collaborations are monumental because they completely demolish the belief that high fashion isn’t for PS women.  I applaud Lane Bryant for pushing through the negativity surrounding PS fashion to provide us with these wonderful collaborations.

Below are a few of my personal favorites from the collection.  I’m completely obsessed with the striped wrap dress and navy blue trench coat.  The full collection will be available online and in select stores on February 27th.  I highly recommend you set your alarm clocks because these collections in the past have sold out in minutes!

Break The Rules

Happy Monday all!

As women we’re often being told what we can and cannot do.  Plus size women are constantly reminded of our “limitations” because of our size. What if we as women decided to reject these “rules” and make our own?  What if we just decided to live life on our terms and not care what people think? I think we would be pretty badass! We would go out into the world wearing white pants in the middle of Winter rocking vertical stripes on our plus bodies without a care in the world. We would date  a younger man and laugh off any “cougar” references.  We would embrace those fine lines and wrinkles on our face that society deems unsightly.  We would  forcefully reject being called a “bitch”when we assert ourselves.

It’s  hard  to give up  rules because they offer a sense of security.  Not all rules are bad, just the ones that limit your growth. Those are the rules are meant to be broken.

Modern Modesty

Happy Monday all!

Apart of my full time job is to be stationed in a courtroom.  In that courtroom, I speak at the bar of the court,  sometimes provide testimony and collaborate with  officers of the court for my clients.   Working in that setting, you are expected to wear modest business attire. If I came into work wearing a blazer over a body con dress, my supervisor would probably send me home! Women have a variety of  reasons for for wanting to dress modestly.  So often it’s cast in a negative life because is not “hot” or “sexy”. Some people tend to dismiss modest dress as boring or frumpy.  Just like PS women,  women who chose to dress modestly want on trend clothing that reflects their belief system too.  Boutiques such as Dainty Jewell’s are doing just that.  Dainty Jewells provides trendy modest clothing from size small to 3XL (which is a about a 22). I appreciate that they offer a range of size inclusive clothing so PS women have more clothing options.  And FYI you don’t have dress modestly to to buy their clothes.  I bought the  fabulous Central Park dress  back in September and wore to my company’s Christmas party last month.    I  received a ton of compliments about my dress that night. The Central Park dress and many of Dainty Jewell’s  offerings  are proof that modest dress is certainly not boring!

Eighty Eight Curvy Girl Review

Happy Monday all!

I love it when a brand recognizes the little things PS women need. Like a longer strap for cross body bags so they  comfortably fit over our larger frames for example.  I own a few cross body bags and it can be a challenge to find one to comfortably fit across my body.    The shorter straps on these bags are made to fit across the body of a  smaller woman.  As you already know this doesn’t bode well for us.  Shorter cross body straps bag ride up underneath our arms or sit under our breasts which is not comfortable at all.  While this can be frustrating,  Eighty Eight bags   (an affordable vegan leather bag brand) is doing something about it.  Eighty Eight offers  an  extra long cross body strap for plus size women up to a size 28.  The extra long strap is available in their Jesse, Katie, Hayley and Taylor bags for FREE. The extended strap allows the bag to comfortably fit across PS bodies without any hassles. The strap is adjustable so you can fit it to your liking. It also detaches for those times when you don’t want to wear the bag across your body.

In today’s post  I’m wearing the Hayley satchel (also comes in two other colors).  To get a better feel for the bag, I wore it while I ran errands yesterday afternoon.  After taking it for a test run, I learned its a really good “everyday” bag.  The Hayley is  big enough to fit all the stuff we carry daily plus other items such as  a tablet.  I really liked the Hayley’s soft slouchy shape and the magnetic closure on bag’s flap for easy entry.   The interior also has pockets for your cell phone and a zip up compartment.  The  extended strap did what it was supposed to do and it fit across my body  perfectly.  I was able to freely move around without constantly adjusting the bag around my body.  I was pleasantly impressed with the Hayley bag and look forward to making it a closet staple.

Summer Rewind

Happy Monday all!

As Summer slowly winds down (NOOOOO!) I’m sharing some of my favorite outfits from this season.  This Summer I fell madly in love with off the shoulder tops and wore them constantly.  I challenged myself to accept my body despite my recent weigh gain and not to fall victim to negativity (which is so easy to do, especially in the Summer). I got to visit Fort Lauderdale for the first time and had a ball at The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo in Atlanta.  While I didn’t get to the shore (that’s what we Philadelphians the call the beaches in New Jersey), I spent a lot of time lounging at the pool with my BFF soaking up the weekend Summer sun. I finally got my grub on at Smogasburg in Brooklyn and loved every single morsel that went into my mouth.   I spent breezy Summer nights swaying to reggae and soca music at rooftop parties.  Needless to say, Summer you will be sorely missed!
