Yes the Easter Bunny Likes Obama

Happy Monday everybody! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and fantastic Easter.

I was invited to tag along with one of my closest friend and her son to attend the White House Easter Egg Roll. We decided to go to DC a day early to do some sightseeing in our capital. We had an awesome time during our very short stay in DC. Here are some pictures from Sunday and the Easter Egg Roll which took place this morning.

Hope you enjoy!

OOTD/The Girls are Alright

Hope everyone is enjoying their Good Friday and preparing for the Easter weekend.

Since I was off today, I needed to hit the mall to return some items. Instead of putting on my usual jean and sweater combo, I decided to dress it up a little. I paired my yellow t-shirt with my black and white striped blazer and my black skinny jeans. I added my Jeffrey Campbell wedges to the outfit. Although these wedges are sky high (over 5 inches) they are very comfortable. I think I was successful in dressing up my day off outfit.

Underneath my shirt I’m wearing my brand new Elomi bra that I ordered at the Bare Necessities booth at NJFFW. The bra is the Herminone Spacer Underwire Bra in charcoal. Honestly its the best fitting bra I’ve ever owned. The bra is comfortable and extremely supportive. The support lasts you all day. Not once today did I have to adjust the bra to stop my breasts from drooping due to lack of support. The straps did not dig into my shoulders like the bras that was wearing (Isis from Bare Necessities told me the band should support your breasts, not the straps). There is no bulging under my arms and no spillage over the cups. It’s a pretty bra with lace detailing on the sides. If you are looking for a good supportive bra, definitely give Elomi a try.

Have a Happy Easter!!!

My First Full Figure Fashion Week

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

On Saturday I attended the second day of New Jersey Full Figure Fashion Week in Atlantic City, NJ. This was my first time going to a Full Figure Fashion Week, so I didn’t know what to expect. I was nervous and excited. Nervous because I was flying solo and excited to be apart of the event. Unfortunately the weather was cold and rainy and my allergies decided to kick in big time, so I really wasnt feeling good. The event was held at Bally’s Hotel and Casino Expo Center (yes I played the slots, no I didn’t win any money…Boo!). I registered and waited for the first program of the day which was the fashion panel discussion facilitated by Paula Michelle (CEO of Nfinite Form, the founder of NJFFW). The participants on the panel were Jene Luciani (author of “The Bra Book”), Chelsea Settles (MTV reality star), Heather Feather (from TLC’s Big Sexy & Heather Feather), Amiee Cheshire (founder of Madison Plus), Nikki Blonsky (actress from the movie “Hairspray”….which I LOVED!!!), Gabi Gregg (awesome plus size blogger of Gabifresh) and Kayla Humpfries (celebrity model). The women on the panel were extremely knowledgeable, they all shared their personal stories and experiences about being plus sized women in the fashion industry and society. Their messages about self-love, body acceptance and creating your own personal style resonated with me. It was great seeing women who I greatly admire talk about similar challenges that I experience. These women are definitely on the frontlines in trying to change fashion’s perception of plus size women. After the panel I was able to meet Amiee Cheshire, Chenese Lewis (host of Plus Model Radio) and CurvyCeo (another amazing plus size blogger who has been so supportive of me). They were so gracious, kind and very approachable. I wasn’t able to get a photo with Amiee Cheshire but I got one with Chenese Lewis! Meeting them was the highlight of my day.

I also met Keysha and Karla from Brooklyn, NY when I sat at their table for the panel. I was initially shy when I sat down but introduced myself to them. I immediately felt at ease once I began talking to them. I struggle with being terribly shy at functions where I don’t know anyone so going to this event by myself was a huge leap for me.

The shopping expo began immediately after the panel. Retailers such as Eliza Parker, Bare Necessities (they offered bra fittings & had EXCELLENT customer service!), Jockey for Her and Baby Phat were in attendance. The DJ was played great music while we shopped and waited for the Formal & Bridal Fashion Show to begin. After about an hour, the fashion show started. The show featured dresses from IGGI by Yuliya Raquel, Monif C., Tadashi Shoji and Faviana. The models rocked the hell out of the runway! They were beautiful , gorgeous and proud of their voluptuous bodies. Vibrant colors, print and current trends were boldly on display. It was great seeing so many designers giving curvy women multiple evening/formal wear options that weren’t boxy, boring and shapeless. It was clear that they know their client base and design clothing that celebrate plus size women not marginalize us. Also many of these dresses were perfect for teens looking for a dress for prom. My personal favorite was the Susan Moses black jersey beaded gown. It’s a stunning v neck floor length gown with beading on the sleeves. The dress puts your curves on display in an elegant way. I fell in love with the dress immediately after I saw it. I wasn’t able to get a picture of it which is a shame because it’s such a beautiful dress.

Unfortunately due to a personal emergency I wasn’t able to stay for the remainder of the day. I was looking forward to the swimwear portion of the fashion show because I’m in the market look for a good bathing suit for the Summer.

I’m glad I decided to attend NJFFW. I had a good time and met some wonderful people. By being there I truly felt apart of the plus size community. I look forward to attending next year!

Have a great day!

Purple Reign

TGIF everyone!!! Hope you have great plans for tonight and the weekend. I was off today so I have a three day weekend! Yay!!!

My outfit today is inspired by an amazing blogger LuAnne (www.weeshasworld.com). About a week ago I was feeling rather daring so I ordered a pair of purple skinny jeans from Macy’s. When my jeans arrived last Friday afternoon , I instantly began to regret my decision. The old negative thoughts came rushing back once I tried them on…”Youre too big to wear these jeans”..”My ass is too fat for these”…”I’m too old to wear this!”. Next thing I knew I was putting them back in the wrapping to return them. I decided to think about whether to keep them or not. Since I subscribe to LuAnne’s blog, I saw that she wrote a post about being plus size and wearing purple skinny jeans! Reading her words inspired me to stop tearing myself down. I put the jeans back on but this time I didn’t skewer myself. After a second look, I realized I looked good in these jeans! The jeans aren’t tight or uncomfortable. They stretch so I’m not confined or stiff. The color isn’t too bright or dark. I felt so good about myself in these jeans that I wore them to work on Tuesday (I’m not in court on this day, so I can wear jeans). I got so many compliments from various people. Tamera (aka Le Mer! LOL) took my picture for Pose and my outfit was chosen to be featured! If I had listened to the negative thoughts I would’ve been taking two steps back. I can’t live my life worrying about what others may think or say. I wasted ALOT of my adult life doing this. Live YOUR life and LOVE who you are!

Thank you LuAnne for your post and inspiring women to love themselves no matter what! Have a great weekend!!!

Casual Friday/Black & Blue

TGIF everyone!!! The weekend is finally here! Was it just me or did the week seem to drag? I’m looking forward to relaxing and getting some household stuff done this weekend.

Since I work in a courthouse casual Fridays are always somewhat of a challenge for me. I try to balance out my want/desire to wear jeans on Friday without being disrespectful to the court (although I’ve seen plenty of outfits worn by clients that are EXTREMELY disrespectful to the court and themselves!!!). I usually pull out my pair of trusty dark trouser jeans but this Friday I decided to do something different. I’ve been wanting to wear my ASOS Curve cobalt blue skinny jeans since I bought them in late January. I paired them with my printed Jones NY sleeveless blouse and black Torrid blazer to tone the jeans down. Since I’m seated during most of my time in the court, my judge rarely sees me from the waist down, so I felt comfortable wearing them. The jeans are a great shade of blue and are form-fitting but not tight. They are surprisingly long on me therefore bunching up around my ankle. I tried to fix this by wearing my heeled booties but don’t think I was successful. The added length straightened the leg out a little bit. I added my Macy’s necklace (which Im obsessed with & have worn multiple times this week!), earrings and NY & Co bracelets to round out the look.

What do you wear for Casual Friday? Have a great weekend!
