Going Solo

Happy Tuesday all!

Being a single woman isn’t some kind of death knell society makes it out to be. The biggest perk of being single is the ability to come and go as you please.  While for many (including myself) find that liberating, for some doing activities alone can be daunting.  There is nothing wrong with being apprehensive about doing things alone.  It took me years to become comfortable with venturing out solo.  But after years of missing out on events and activities I said “the hell with this” and decided to go on my own.  Are there certain things I won’t do solo? Absolutely but I can’t stop living my life if  someone doesn’t accompany me.  After years of doing various activities I’ve come enjoy my alone time.  Going solo has also helped strengthen my self confidence.  If you’re ready to venture out solo, here are a few activities to start you on your journey:

Go to a museum: Museums are the perfect place to go solo.  You can take your time and browse your favorite collections without worrying about other’s schedules or time constraints

See a play, dance or musical:  No one cares if you’re by yourself. Once the lights go down, all the focus is on the stage.

Go to the movies: I love going to the movies solo.  I am a huge sci-fi fan but my friends aren’t so I tend to see a lot of movies by myself.

Visit a botanical garden, park or arboretum:  Taking in all that beauty has a calming affect. Pack  your favorite, book, a blanket and a lunch for an impromptu picnic.

By the way, spending time alone isn’t just for single people.  I know several people who are married or in relationships who like doing things by themselves. Bottom line, single or not you should never stop engaging in activities that make you happy.  If that means doing those activities by yourself then so be it!

Have a wonderful day!

Summertime Denim

Happy Monday all!

For years I wouldn’t even consider wearing denim during the Summer.   The most I would consider wearing were are a pair of ripped distressed jeans or denim shorts.  Luckily my thinking has changed over the years.  I’ve worn multiple denim items during the Summer and I was just fine.  I didn’t break out into a drenching sweat or burst into flames.  I actually like pairing my jeans with a cute top for a night out on the town!

Still not convinced? Here are a few ways you can rock denim comfortably during the Summer:

Jumpsuits:  I have a denim  jumpsuit from Old Navy  I wear religiously during the Summer (in fact I’m wearing it now as I type this post!). They have some of the cutest options such as their stripe jumpsuits that will last you all Summer long.

Skirts:  Who doesn’t own a denim skirt? Denim skirts are a closet staple that can be worn all year around.  I love wearing mine with a cute frilly blouse and sandals. Looking to update your denim skirt style this Summer?  Try adding a  wrap skirt to your warm weather wardrobe!

Cropped: Cropped denim is another closet mainstay.  With different cropped lengths you can find a pair that fits your personal style.  Combine a stripe tee, flip flops and a straw bag for the perfect Summertime look.

White Denim:  I know white during the Summer is intimidating but it can be be done.  Try pairing your white bottoms with a chambray top for a season appropriate denim on denim look.

Wrap Dress: Wrap dresses look good on everyBODY especially a great denim one.  Again this is another item in your closet that can be worn now and later. This one from Macys  is a perfect match for your office casual Friday dress code.

How do you prefer to wear denim in the Summer? I would love to hear from you!

Have a wonderful day!

Trench Twist

Happy Monday all!

I’m always skeptical when a brand promises that they will offer their clothing lines in plus sizes.   Unfortunately when the line drops I’m often frustrated to see that the really cute, trendy stuff is never made in plus sizes.  So when I initially saw this sleeveless trench dress from Target’s A New Day line, I just assumed it wasn’t available in plus but I was pleasantly proven wrong.  Along with their Who What Wear collaboration and their Universal Thread denim line, Target is quietly providing on trend affordable clothing for women that is  age and size inclusive. Their next collaboration with Hunter boots (dropping on April 14th) will also include plus sizes which is down right exciting! Slowly retailers are realizing that plus size women are stylish and want to express themselves through fashion.  I love the fact I can wear the same clothes and have the same options as straight sized women. Now if Target would make it’s plus clothing available in store that would be epic! (hint, hint!)

Lovely Layers Pt. 2

TGIF all!

We all have at least one turtleneck in our Winter wardrobe.  While sometimes they get a bad rap , turtlenecks can one of the most versatile items of clothing in your closet.  It’s the perfect Winter layering piece that practically goes with everything. From dresses to jeans, a turtleneck can go a long way in the Winter.  Try layering your turtleneck underneath an off the shoulder dress or a denim jumpsuit to Winterize some of your favorite Spring pieces.

How do you like to layer during the Winter?

Have a wonderful day!

P.S. Spring is 17 days away! YAY!!!!

Let’s Party!

TGIF all!

When I think about dressing for a holiday party, being comfortable is high on my list. If I’m uncomfortable I can’t have a good time.  When I was younger I was more focused on looking good than being comfortable in my clothes.  There were times where I was so worried about tripping in my high heels I barely danced.  After awhile I realized I could be cute and comfortable.  I traded in my high heels and super tight clothing for festive but functional clothing. Now if I attend a Christmas party where there is going to be a lot of dancing, I  wear flats or kitten heels so my feet aren’t on fire by the end of the night.  If I’m going to a house party I’ll wear a cotton shirt or dress to make sure I don’t sweat to death while having a good time.

So during this holiday season have a great time and make sure you wear flats! LOL

Have a wonderful weekend!
