What To Wear During Full Figure Fashion Week!

Happy Hump Day all!

While I’m in NYC this week for a very special project (I promise I will share the good news with you soon!) and Full Figure Fashion week activities, my blogger pal Neffereth of Mode Plus graciously offered to fill in for me today!

Thank you Nefferth for helping me out!

Have a wonderful day!

Georgette asked me if I could to do a guest post on her blog while she is visiting New York this week. And I was happy to help out. Talking about New York and this week. As you may know, Full Figured Fashion Week will be held with various events to attend. Each event containing its own setting of affairs, it can be a little overwhelming to choose the right wardrobe. For example, nobody wants to be at a dance party wearing too tight clothes. To assure you some structure in the search for the perfect outfits, I selected a few items keeping in mind the purpose of each event.
Take a look and be inspired.

Dinner / Dance Event – Curves At Sea

You’ll need an outfit that will be able to stand humid and dry conditions on a boat. You want to wear shoes that are comfortable enough so you be able to dance the night away. Just because the dress code is ALL White, it doesn’t mean you have to wear all white. Add more playfulness and dimension in your outfit by adding a contrast color in the details.

You’ll be sitting for the most part, so this is the event to bring in the flats. Remind yourself of the 3 C’s -> Casual, Chic, Comfort. Anything goes, but no to flip-flops. Save those for the beach or at the pool.

30 Plus Style: Pretty in Pastels

Happy Hump Day all!

Since I’m committed to shopping my closet,  I had to dig DEEP in my wardrobe to find a pastel outfit. The theme of the collaboration was sort of  a challenge because I don’t own a lot of pastel colored clothing. I really can’t put my finger on why I avoided pastels.  Maybe I became so focused on wearing bright colors I overlooked softer hues. After racking my brain for about a good half hour, I remembered a pastel outfit I wore back when I first started blogging.  I liked it so much I decided that I would repeat it today.  Don’t  I look very pastel-y and  Spring like?! 🙂

Please check out my fellow 30 Plus Style collaborators looking “Pretty in Pastels”!

Step Up!

Happy Hump Day all!

Often when people talk about Spring trends they automatically focus on clothing but those trends also extend to shoes.  I wanted to highlight some of the  trends I’ve incorporated into my shoe collection. As with any trend, find one you like and make it your own!

Slip on sneakers: These are a great updated way to wear sneakers without looking like you’re trying too hard.  They are an easy way to freshen up a casual outfit.  I wanted a leopard pair of slip on sneakers to jazz up my jeans.   I lucked out on these cute pair from ASOS that were less than 38 bucks!

Check these fun slip on sneakers!

D’Orsay Flats: If you follow me on Instagram, you know how much I love these pair from Nordstrom’s Halogen brand.  I appreciate a pair of flats that are chic and comfortable.  These striped lovelies are the perfect combination of both!

I think these D’Orsay flats will freshen your Spring look!

Metallic: Metallics are no longer reserved for special occasions or holiday functions. They can easily transition into the Spring and Summer.  I can attest that metallic sandals, flats and pumps can jazz up any outfit. Next time you head out, instead of going to your old stand by, swap them out for a metallic pair!

Add these chic metallic sandals to your wardrobe!

What are your favorites? How would you wear them?

Have a wonderful day!

Happy Birthday To Me!

Happy Monday all!

Today is my 42nd birthday and I’m happy that while it’s still very cold outside, the sun is shining bright on my special day.  To celebrate my 42nd year of life, I treated myself to something I’ve been wanting for years…A TRIP TO PARIS! I can’t tell you how excited I am about my upcoming trip! I think I’ll probably faint when I get to the top of the Eiffel Tower (from either excitement or from my fear of heights! LOL)! Trust me I will be taking a gazillion pictures and will post them when I get back.

Have a wonderful day!

Skirting the Issue

Happy Monday all!

Someone asked me recently if I ever wear pants. I replied “of course I do”. She responded “oh, because all I’ve seen you wear is skirts!”. Now I could look at that exchange in two ways: 1) she  REALLY must be paying attention to what I’m wearing or 2) I do wear skirts all the time. I have to admit, the latter is the truth.  Why? Wearing skirts allows me to get in touch with my long dormant girly side.  For the majority of my adult life, I didn’t care how I looked and being in direct care social work gave me the perfect excuse to justify my bland uniform (jeans or cords and a sweater). I would convince myself that it wasn’t practical to wear skirts especially if I had to chase or restrain a client.  I really believed  if I wore one I would be inviting unwanted attention and comments. So to avoid any possible negativity, I rarely wore a skirt. Back in those days, the only thing I wanted to do was hide and not be noticed.

When I finally decided to accept my body,  I went out and bought my first  pencil skirt. I was no longer going to be in “hiding” and vowed to wear skirts whenever I felt like it. I learned quickly that I preferred skirts over pants, something the old me would’ve run from.  Now don’t get me wrong,  pants have their place (you wont see me shoveling snow in a skirt!)  but skirts have my heart!

Have a wonderful day!
