“A” For Effort

Happy Hump Day all!

I’m lazy when it comes to casual dressing especially during the weekend. On any given Saturday you can  find me in a pair of wrinkly jeans and sweats.  While there is nothing wrong with this, I found myself increasingly not making an effort with my appearance during the weekend. Last Saturday I caught a glimpse of myself in a store  window and I looked a hot mess! After seeing myself, I made a promise to put just as much effort into my casual dress as I do for work.  So on Sunday pulled this outfit together to go see the Patrick Kelly exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (if you are in the Philadelphia area and love fashion, this exhibit is a must!).

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not giving up  my weekend wrinkly jeans and sweats.  I just wont be wearing them 100% of the time from now on!

What is your weekend style?

Have a wonderful day!

Pinterest Inspiration

Happy Monday all!

If I haven’t mentioned it before, I’m completely addicted to  Pinterest. I can stay on Pinterest all day  especially the women’s fashion board. It was there I stumbled on this pin which inspired my post today.  Her chic ensemble got me thinking of ways I could incorporate white my Fall wardrobe. I came up with three easy ways to add white and get further use of items already in my closet.

How are you incorporating white into you Fall wardrobe?

Have a wonderful day!

Casual Friday: Jean Day

TGIF all!

Since I don’t have to go to court today, I can finally wear jeans to the office.  In the Summer  I usually ditch jeans because of the heat & humidity but the unseasonably cool temps of late have created the perfect conditions to wear them.  The jeans I’m wearing today are from Lane Bryant .  Ever since I got them I cant stop wearing them.  It’s hard for me to find jeans I really like and fit me well so when I do find a good pair, I wear them constantly.  These jeans are so comfortable and fit my curves wonderfully.  What completely sold me is that they don’t gap in the back which means I don’t have to keep hitching  them up to cover my booty.  The only downside is that they only come in one color. I wish they came in more colors so I could buy all of them! Until that happens, I’m gonna wear these  lovelies until they fall apart! LOL

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

30 Plus Style: Trending, Dresses Over Pants

Happy Hump Day all!

Being in the 30 Plus Style collaborative has definitely stretching the boundaries of my style.  Back in the Spring it was a tutu and  now  a dress over pants.   Ive seen pictures of this trend but mostly on the runway and on street style stars.  While it looked good on them,  I became concerned that I wouldnt  work on me and I would end up looking like a bag lady.   So I took to my beloved Pinterest to find inspiration and to find  how to wear the trend stylishly.  What I got from the pins  is that slim or skinny leg pants  and A line dresses seem to be the best combo when venturing into this look.  After some serious closet digging I decided to pair an old dress over  straight leg jeans. I added heels to lengthen my legs and balance out  the proportions.  My ripped jeans (which I cannot stop wearing!) added to the  bohemian vibe of the dress.  Honestly I don’t know if Ill wear this trend again but it was fun to try something new and a little scary!

So what do you think? Would you wear a dress over pants?

Please check out the other lovely ladies of 30 Plus Style and our guest blogger Els from XL Fashion File to see how they tackled the challenge!

Casual Friday: Free Your Mind

TGIF all!

If you’ve been following me for a while or are new to the blog (WELCOME!!!)  it’s clear I’m a lover of stripes. I used to follow all those “fashion rules” that said curvy women should avoid wearing stripes because they would make you look bigger. Sometimes I would want to break the rule but I was too afraid of drawing attention to myself.  Once I decided to free myself from these rules, stripes were no longer taboo anymore.  I slowly eased into it by pairing them with “safe” pieces like jeans.  As time passed, I upped the ante and now I have striped dresses, skirts, etc. I guess the moral of the story is we shouldn’t limit ourselves, period. sometimes as women  we get so caught up on what others think we deny ourselves the right to just be. For years I used to think I was too fat to travel, so I didn’t go anywhere.   I stifled my love for travel for years until one day I said “fuck it!”, booked a flight and haven’t looked back since!
