Happy Monday all!
Once again the holiday season is upon us. Every year it seems like the start of “holiday season” is being pushed further into October. During the weekend before Halloween I went to the mall and there were Christmas decorations already on display! No matter when the season starts, it is the biggest shopping event of the year. For many of us, the holiday season can be financially overwhelming. Everywhere you turn, people are being encouraged to shop til they drop! For shoppers with a strict Christmas gift budget (like myself) the urge to splurge can be very strong. Those urges can potentially bust your budget and put additional stress on your wallet. Here are some tips to help you stick to your holiday budget and keep extra money in your pocket.
- Cash Only: by leaving your credit cards at home you are significantly reducing your ability to over spend.
- . Use Coupons: save additional money by downloading Ebates and Retail Me apps to get the latest store coupons.
- Be Strategic: instead of roaming around the mall, make a list of the stores you need to visit and stick to only those stores on the list. Once you’ve completed shopping your list…LEAVE THE MALL!
What are some of your tips to combat overspending during the holiday season?
Have a wonderful day!
Sweater: H&M (size Large; here)
Pants: Old Navy Plus (here)
Boots: ASOS (here, similar here)
Earrings: Baublebar (no longer available, similar here)
My tip? Shorten the list. My offspring and spouse are getting “needs”. These are mostly practical items, like new wool socks, gloves, jackets and winter boots We’d be buying them anyways, but they’re getting them all at once for Christmas. For my parents, practical household items are on the list.
A quick question: how do you keep those velvet pants from gathering lint, dust and pet hair? I brought out some of my velvet items from a previous season, and remembered why I rarely use them. I had to carry a mini lint roller everywhere I went, and tired of this high maintenance.
I have actually done some pretty serious Black Friday shopping for the first time ever…
