Happy Hump Day all!
Last weekend I headed up to NYC to attend Ashley Stewart’s Rock the Block event in Brooklyn. As usual I used the event as an opportunity to hang with my boos Jami from Style Over Size, Darlene from Suits, Heels and Curves and Sandra from La Pecosa Preciosa. I can’t stress enough how my friendship with them and my other girlfriends have taught me what it means to support other women. Unfortunately in our society, we are taught to compete and view other women as potential threats. Viewing women has competitors robs us of forming meaningful supportive relationships. For years I struggled with being a good friend to my girlfriends due to my struggles with insecurity and low self-esteem. For years I was a shitty friend to my girlfriends who by the grace of God are still here to this day. Through therapy and A LOT of self reflection I was able to improve my self-esteem and self-worth. By decreasing my feelings of inadequacy, I was able to stop being jealous of my friends and celebrate their successes. Now don’t get me wrong, I am still a work in progress. When I feel some of the old stuff trying to come up, I immediately check myself and get right. My friendships mean everything to me and I would never do anything to jeopardize them.
Have a wonderful day!
