Pop of Red

TGIF all!

When I first started wearing lipstick, there was this unspoken rule that dark skin girls shouldn’t wear red.  From what I understood, red lips would look garish against our skin tone.  For years I wore “safe” lip colors that “complimented” my dark skin (I have a TON of berry colored lipsticks!)  I longed to wear red but was afraid to do it because of that stupid unspoken rule.  A few years ago I ditched that fear and embarked on a search for the best red lipstick for me. After a few trials and errors, I found a few red lipsticks that I love.  When I confidently wear my red lips,  I’m  thumbing my nose at that unspoken rule for  dark skin women.   I look forward to the day when “rules” no longer dictate how women live their lives.

Below are my favorite red lipsticks that I wear all the time.  I use Make Up Forever’s  Aqua lip Waterproof Lip Liner in 8C Red to line my lips and   MACs Prep + Prime lip primer to moisturize and keep my lips smooth.    I have dry lips and the primer keeps my pout from flaking and cracking.  I’m looking for a good lip exfoliant so if you have any suggestions, please let a sista know!

    The best lip exfoliator is a little brown sugar and warm water. You can afd a drop of you favorite carrier oil like EVO or grapeseed oil. scrub gently and rinse off with warm water. White sugar can also be used.
