Happy Monday all!
Over the weekend I had to the pleasure of attending BlogHer’s annual conference with my blogger babes in NYC. When I was packing for the conference I challenged myself to only bring enough clothes that could fit into a weekend duffel bag. I decided to scale down after lugging a nearly 60lb suitcase Bermuda and not wearing half of what I brought. After that experience, I vowed to stop over packing. So here is what I took away from my scaled down packing experience:
1. Gotta Limit My Shoes: When I went on my cruise, I brought six pairs of shoes with me and only ended up wearing two pairs! Can you see what was wrong with this picture! LOL When I was packing for BlogHer I knew I was going to be doing a lot of walking so there was no need for fancy shoes. So I limited myself to two pairs of flat sandals. I wore one pair traveling to NYC and packed the other pair. Yay me!!!
2. Learned To (FINALLY!!!) Pack Light: I would see article after article about packing light and would think “I can’t do that!” Packing light became easy once I stopped stressing myself out about “what am I going to wear!” Instead I focused on bringing clothing that could be worn multiple ways without compromising style. I also challenged myself not to buy anything new for the conference and only shopped my closet for what I needed. In the end I only took two midi skirts, a dress and two shirts for my four day stay in NYC. No more 60lb bags for me! Go me! Go me!
3. I’m A Proud Repeat Offender: Basically the outfit I arrived in was the one I left in! This way no extra clothes were packed! YES!!!
I would love to get your packing tips or tricks that I can use. I have another vacation coming up in the Fall, so I need all the help I can get!
Have a wonderful day!
P.S. I want to thank Sandra from La Pecosa Preciosa for taking my pics this weekend!

Thanks for the heads up!
I can identify with your recent dilemma. I too went on a 12 day trip on Viking Riverboat Cruises back in late April to early May, traveling from Paris, Germany, Strasbourg France to Switzerland . I did keep a basic color scheme and prints that matched together and although I started off with a good plan and one bag still I wore only half of what I packed. We’ll I am on my way to Paris and London in September for 10 days let hope this time your post and my past experience will help me make better packing decisions.
Thank you for your curvy blog, it’s great we are being represented. Kudos

Thank you so much! I wish I could hide in your suitcase for your Paris & London trip! LOL
I have become a master light packer since all the European lowcost airlines make you pay for checked in luggage. I did 4 days in Budapest using just my tiny laptop backpack.

Thank you! I was born & raised in the Bronx so it’s always a pleasure to return to the Big Apple!
This was right on time! I’m going to visit family next month and have been agonizing on how to limit my shoes!!! It’s 10 days so my goal is 3 pairs – we’ll see! Loved that striped top with the print skirt – gorgeous!

Yay! I’m glad I could be of help! I think you can meet your goal of 3 pairs of shoes for 10 days!
You were spot on w/ the tips. Coordinating outfits based on colors has helped me pack lighter. I try to do color combinations where each item coordinates with the other whether it be shoes, jewelry, or apparel. For example, on a recent trip I had a color theme of cobalt blue, orange, white, and black. My travel inspiration piece (as I like to call it) had all those colors in it; it was a top and skirt. The two pieces could be worn together or broken up to go w/ other pieces. The few other pieces I packed worked back to the travel inspiration piece which made everything coordinate. It really feels good (like you made an accomplishment) when you learn to pack light!
