Casual Friday/The Olivia Pope Edition

TGIF all!

Its been a long time since I’ve been excited about a television show.  “Scandal” (Thursdays, 10pm on ABC) instantly sucked me into the world of Olivia Pope  (played by the wonderful Kerry Washington) and her “gladiators in suits”.  On Thursday nights you’ll find me glued to the television (and Twitter! LOL) watching the twists and turns unfold on this great show.  I’m thrilled to see a  strong, flawed and intelligent African-American woman being portrayed on prime time television.  Her character isn’t some stereotypical depiction of a women of color.  The show allows Olivia Pope to be  a human being  with all its complexities.

Aside from Olivia Pope’s personal attributes, her style is FIERCE! Everything from her crisp white trench down to her stilettos is always on point.

Olivia Pope’s sleek professional style inspired my outfit today.  I’ve been searching for a colored suit for a minute so when I stumbled upon these Calvin Klein separates I scooped them up.  Red is  a powerful, vibrant color so wearing it was the perfect way to pay tribute to her.

If you get an opportunity, check out “Scandal” on Hulu, Netflix or at ABC.com for full episodes.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Whoo woot!!!! I remember years ago I was at a party and was talking to someone who said “I would never wear a red dress. It would stand out too much”. So, of course, I straight away decided I needed a red dress. I hunted high and low, but red dresses were not on trend at that point in time. I ended up gettting a full length, sparkly one made by a seamstress. God it was gorgeous. Of course, these days I’d be lucky to fit my left leg into it, but damned that dress was fine! I also found another one in a shop that was short, and strappy and very cute. GO RED!

Yes GO RED! I love how you took that comment as inspiration to do the opposite. You go girl!

DANG GURL!! Look at how fierce and fabulous you are!! 😀 I love how graphic and bold your outfit is, but your smile definitely shines more than the suit. 🙂 You look amazing!

You look so wonderful – sharp and chic! I’m a red girl too and even though I’d made a vow not to buy anymore red clothes, you’re might make me break it with this inspiration. LOVE your hair, BTW!

You look fantastic! I haven’t checked out Scandal, but I know I’m going to get sucked in once I do. Shonda Rimes always does an amazing job at color blind casting. She rights realistic, multifaceted characters and then casts talented actors without using stereotypes or tokenism.

I am also a huge Kerry Washington fan. I saw her perform in a production of the Vagina Monologues about 5 years ago and I was blown away.

Thank you! I completely agree with you regarding Shonda Rimes. Ive been a faithful fan of “Private Practice” for years. I enjoy her storytelling and her complex characters.

I think every woman should have a red suit. Its such a vibrant color. It gives new meaning to the “power suit”!
