Casual Friday: Spring Renewal

TGIF all!

Winter is FINALLY outta here! Woo hoo! Although the temps aren’t Spring-like yet, I’m just grateful it’s here!

This year the arrival of Spring has a lot of meaning for me.  In my post   Shining Through, I touched on some of the emotional issues I’ve been dealing with.  Besides my family and close friends, no one knew that behind my smile I was dealing with crippling anxiety and depression. Knowing I didn’t want to live like that anymore, I made the decision to  seek help to address my “stuff”.   Since the season is all about renewal and change, the growth I’m experiencing is sort of a Spring cleaning of the soul.  I’m learning how to let go  of fear, resentment and anger which is helping me change my perspective on life.  I’m renewing my self-confidence and resiliency that were temporarily interrupted.  Making change is HARD but I know I’m blessed and fortunate to see another Spring!

What does the arrival of Spring mean to you?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Spring Trends to Wear Now…Pastels

Happy Monday all!

How was everyone’s weekend? Great I hope! As you can see, I got a new haircut and color! I made the decision to retire my mohawk on Friday and luckily my hairdresser had an opening on Saturday afternoon.   I absolutely LOVE my new color and I can’t stop smiling about it!

In my post “3 Trends To Try This Spring”, I talked about how pastels are going to be HOT for the season.  With Spring a little over a week away, you can make them apart of your wardrobe now. Try picking a pastel  (pink, yellow and blue are my favorites) that looks good on you.  Once you find colors that work, pair them with neutrals to ease into the trend.  Also wearing colors that historically work well with each other (ex. blue and yellow) is another simple way to wear the trend. I’ve always loved the combo of pink and green together, so I incorporated them into my work outfit today.

Will you be giving pastels a try this Spring?

Have a wonderful day!

Spring Trends to Wear Now…Black & White

Happy Hump Day!

After I finished my last post I realized that the three trends I wrote about (florals, black & white and pastels) could be worn now with a few modifications (i.e. tights).  I picked black & white first because it’s easy to wear and accessible.  In the previous post, I mentioned wearing different prints together, so I decided to show this by wearing black & white polka dots and stripes together.  Wearing the same color scheme when mixing prints is an easy way to ease into it without feeling overwhelmed. As you can probably tell, polka dots and stripes are a favorite of mine.   It’s important that you find a combination of prints that YOU like. Once you find a combo that works for you, try wearing it in different colors!

Also I want to give a shout out to Rocquelle of Consider Me Lovely for the outfit inspiration today!

Have a wonderful day!

Casual Friday: Midi Mania

TGIF all!

First I want to thank everyone who submitted suggestions in my last post. I meant so much to see how many people have taken interest in my blog.  So again… thank you!

Finding the right skirt for your body can be tricky.  For me over the knee skirts don’t work because of my shelf booty.  After having people tell me that they could see my Spanx from behind, I had to give them up.  So when the midi length trend ushered in a few of years ago, I quickly jumped on it.   I had finally found a skirt length that worked for my body. Midi skirts are a classic wardrobe staple and is perfect for someone who doesn’t like short skirts but still wants to show some leg (ME!).  They are flattering on women of all sizes and ages.  Now that the midi is here to stay, you can find them in a variety of colors and prints.  I like dressing up my midi’s with a blouse and dressing them down with a t-shirt and denim jacket.  Next time you wear your skirt, pair it with a cool sneaker or a peep toe pump for some variety.   If you are a little on the short side, a midi might be too long but try one anyway.  You can always have it hemmed to the length you desire.  Remember, fashion “rules” are meant to be broken. Wear what feels good to YOU!

Here are some  links to my favorite midi skirts: Simply Be, Talbots Woman, Modcloth, ASOS Curve, Eshakti, and Dorothy Perkins (they go up to size 18).

Have a wonderful weekend!

Etsy Gold

Happy Hump Day all!

Ever since I  stumbled across Etsy months ago, I’ve become smitten with stores like Clutched and CoveredLove Cortnie (wonderfully handmade clutches),Jibri (fashion forward plus size clothing that will make you swoon!) and many more.

Now that I finally found a good seamstress, I’m always on Etsy looking for fabric for more projects. During one of my searches, I came across  Chimzi Fashion and instantly fell in love with the fabric of the skirt I’m wearing today.   The wonderful mix of primary colors was definitely what I was looking for. I’ve been wanting an African print skirt for a while now, so it felt good to finally make it a reality.  Trust me, this beauty is gonna be in heavy rotation this upcoming Spring and Summer!

Are you a fan of Etsy? If so, what are some of your favorite stores?

Have a wonderful day!
