Old is New Again

Happy Wednesday all!

The thing I love about fashion is that old always becomes new again. I bet if you look in your closet, you probably have clothes you bought years ago that are now trendy.  The lace pencil skirt I’m wearing today is a prime example of this.   I bought this skirt back in 2002  when I needed a dressy outfit for the Captain’s Ball on a Caribbean cruise.   Over the years I was tempted to give the skirt away, but something always  stopped me.   Last week I was flipping through my People Style Watch magazine and I came upon an article announcing that lace was “in”.  BINGO!  I instantly  thought of this skirt and decided to wear it to work.  Looking at the skirt you would never know it is 10 years old!  So go, shop your closet and see what you have there.  You might be surprised at what  you might  find!

And for those readers in the Tri State area , don’t forget  Skinny Minority & Macy’s  (1300 Market Street) Fashion Night Out event in Center City.  The event will  start at 6:30pm  in the  Women’s Department on the 2nd Floor.  There will be giveaways, delicious eats and fun all around, so please come out and support!  Plus I’ll be walking the runway! Woo hoo!!!

Have a wonderful evening!!!

Wonderful – you look great. You know too, I love going to second hand stores and looking for “vintage,” things and dressing them up. I’m a crocheter and knitter and love the wonderful silks, wools mixes with alpaca – things like that – it is amazing what you can come up with – or what others have come up with – an old fashion sew club or knitting club is a wonderful place to find ideas – skirt looks GREAT 🙂

Sounds like youre a really talented corcheter and knitter! Its funny how all the “vintage” clothing from years ago are still revlelant today. Shows you nothing really goes out of style!

Love this! I wore lace and leopard yesterday (but didn’t get any pics, so I’ll have to repeat). Good luck on the catwalk!

I’m trying to shop the closet more.. I really am. And I rarely throw something away, so I know I’ve got some old stuff. The oldest thing I still currently (regularly) wear is a rain coat I bought in 1999 at Gap. At the time probably one of the most expensive things I had ever bought. It looks like an old fashioned rain slicker and I LOVE it!

Im in the same boat you are. Im really trying to work with what I have. I can be lazy when it comes to clothes, so I tend to buy the same things over and over again. Ive promised to break this habit and stick with what I got!

Good thing you didn’t give that skirt away. I know that style and fashion experts say to get rid of anything in your closet you haven’t worn in a year…but sometimes you just need to hang onto an item. It’s a good thing that you did…it looks fabulous on you.

    • September 8, 2012 / 12:55 am

Thank you! Im glad I didnt throw it away either. I plan to wear it again with a striped button up shirt!

You look fabulous as always my dear! And I totally agree about shopping your own closet. Recently, I was going the closet in my spare bedroom with the plan of getting rid of old clothes that haven’t seen the light of day in 5+ years but I felt like I was in the best department store ever… everything was my size and free, lol.

Yes! Thats is BEST thing about shopping your closet. Finding those old gems you had forgotten about!

Hee! I’m laughing because I wear old stuff ALL the time; I probably lack the knowledge to realize when/if it’s out of style! (I live in hope that, if it’s woefully out of date, it will look wrong even to my eyes). But 10 years IS a long time, and yet you look very au courant, as they say. I like that blouse a lot, too.
