Thrift Diva

Happy Hump Day all!

My co-worker Kiana is one of the sweetest people I know. On top of being a wonderful person, Kiana is a curvy girl with a great sense of style. One day I asked her where she shopped and she told me that nearly all of her clothes were thrifted. I’ve been curious about thrifting but honestly didn’t know where to go. So I figured Kiann would be the best person to give me some thrift lessons!

How did you discover thrift stores and how long have you been thrifting?

I’ve been going to thrift stores ever since I was a little girl. My mother LOVES thrift stores and she would always drag me and my sisters along to different thrift stores when we were little. So I got my love of thrifting from my mom.

What is the best deal you’ve ever scored while thrifting?

I recently bought a black Banana Republic wrap dress for about $5. I love the way it looks on me and was so happy when I found it… and for $5!!!! You cannot beat that!

What are your favorite thrift stores?

I’ve been to numerous thrift stores but my favorite has got to be Village Thrift. The one I go to is located in New Jersey but they also have a shop in Philadelphia. I shop there about twice a month. It’s a huge thrift store and has everything! I love that place!

Is your outfit today thrifted? If so, tell me about it.

Yes, my entire outfit is thrifted! I fell in love with this red Ann Taylor Loft polka dot blouse, and although red is not my favorite color, I decided to try it out. The blouse, believe it or not, was brand new with the tags still attached and I purchased it for $8. I paired it with a black pencil skirt ($5), and a pair of Guess sling back pumps ($9). The beaded necklace is also thrifted… So in total, my outfit cost me a little over $20. Not bad right???

What advice would you give to first time thrift store shoppers like me?

I would advise first time thrift store shoppers to go with an open mind because you never know what you’re going to find. And go with some time on your hands and a lot of patience. Thrift stores can be a little overwhelming because they have so many things. But it’s a good place to go to on a day you have nothing to do and don’t have a lot of cash to spend. For me, it’s guilt free retail therapy!

Kiana shows us that you don’t have to spend a million bucks to look like a million bucks! Thanks Kiana for sharing!

Do you thrift? If so, what is the best bargain you’ve scored?! Have a wonderful evening!

I recently tried thrifting (by the encouragement of Kiana). A little overwhelming, but I did find some great stuff. My best find was a Gap denim blazer for $6.

thrifting is so good when you find ‘the bargain!’ kiana is definately a great advert – she looks amazing – i am slighly envious of the great deals your other readers have!! england can be a little over-priced -weep!- x

Thank you! She always looks great! Not to sound ignorant, but there are no thrift stores in England?

where i live the thrift stores can be quite expensive – there are lots – but recently they have increased the prices quite significantly- which makes me sad! for example i recently saw an amazing white blazer for £20! thats a lot for thrift (we call it charity shopping!) but i still continue to search! by the way, you don’t sound ignorant! i love this global blog – its wonderful x
