Date Night

Happy Monday all!

My post today is not a work outfit! Shocking right?! (LOL!)  This is what I wore on my date Saturday night.  I really liked what I wore so I asked my date to take my picture (thanks Kobe!). One of my early New Year resolutions is to post more casual outfits to change things up abit.  Im excited for the upcoming year and the plans I have for the blog.

Everyday Glam

Happy Monday all!

Now that  the holiday season is pretty much here, all kinds of  glamorous party wear is being offered.  But did you know that  it’s not just for cocktail and formal parties? You can add some  glam to your work outfit with just a few tweaks.  Try wearing a sequin tank underneath a cardigan.  Pair your jacquard pants with a button up and flats.  Or if that’s not your cup of tea, how about that dress hanging in your closet with the beading around the neck or hem ?  By adding a cardigan or blazer you can transform it  into a work appropriate outfit!  That is what I did to this fabulously beaded eShakti dress.   Plus if you have an after work holiday dinner or party,  lose the cardigan and add some heels for the perfect after hours ensemble.

How do you do to add glam to your everyday look?

Have a wonderful evening!

Casual Friday/Remember the Tights!

TGIF everybody!

The last time that I could remember wearing  colored tights is when   I was 10 years old.  My family had gone to the Poconos with members of our church congregation for a weekend getaway.   Dinner that Saturday night was at a fancy restaurant so my mom had to dress us up.   I remember  wearing  a red dress with white tights and shiny patent leather shoes.  My mom had pulled my hair up into a ponytail and topped it off with a red bow.  I remember feeling so pretty and a little grown up because my shoes had a slight wedge  which I thought were high heels!  Dressing up that  night was one of the highlights of that trip which has always stuck with me.

Honestly I can’t point to one reason why I  stopped wearing colored tights.  Maybe I  told myself I could only wear black or brown tights.  Maybe I felt my legs were too big for colored tights.  Either way as you can see, I no longer feel that way!

Would you wear colored tights? If so, what color?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Casual Friday/Offering a Helping Hand

TGIF all!

What a week!  Unfortunately my family in the Bronx are still without power.  It’s  hard to watch them struggle  but they are extremely grateful to be alive and have a roof over their heads.  So many people in my home state of  New York and New Jersey are suffering terribly tonight and need our help.  The American Red Cross is accepting donations to help the millions of  Hurricane Sandy victims.  Your contribution may be small but it does make a difference.

With that said, I needed a punch of color to brighten my mood today.  This Sean Anthony Designs fuchsia ruffle blouse definitely does the trick.  I wanted the blouse to be the focus of attention, so I paired it with my coated black INC blazer and printed Eloquii ankle pants.

Have a wonderful weekend!

*Disclaimer: I am not affiliated or a member of the Red Cross. I was not asked by the Red Cross to solicit  donations.

Spotlight on You!

TGIF everybody!

Today I’m starting a new feature called  ”Spotlight on You!” which will highlight  my lovely readers!   A few days ago, I received an email from Selah with a picture of her wearing her first maxi dress.  I had replied to one her comments that I wanted to see when she finally wore a maxi dress and she remembered!  Selah’s  willingness to move outside of her comfort zone and embrace herself  inspired me to start “Spotlight on You”.  So with no further ado, here is Selah!

“I was unsure of the maxi dress.  Long dresses seem so formal, probably because the last time I wore a long dress was at my wedding.  Then I read somewhere (on a fashion blog, I’m sure) that maxi dresses are great because they’re cool enough for summer and you don’t have to shave your legs.  SOLD!I hunted for a long time for the perfect maxi dress.  I stumbled across this one on the clearance rack at Target.  It’s a Liz Lange Maternity, but I loved the color and the crisscross diamond design, so I tried it on.  It fit perfectly except for the length.  I fixed that by cutting 3-1/2” off the bottom.  The knit fabric doesn’t fray so I just left it raw. When I wore it my little boy said, “Mom, you look as beautiful as a queen,” and kissed my hand.  You have to love a dress that gets that kind of reaction!”

Selah you look wonderful and your son is such a sweetie!  Thank you sharing this with me and  allowing me  to share it with readers. If you would like to be featured in “Spotlight on You”, please send a picture and a blurb explaining why you decided to try something new to ebdiva08@gmail.com.

Half Way There

Happy Monday all!
So its been seven months since my first post way back in January.  In these seven months I’ve learned so much about myself and blogging.  I find that blogging helps me to continue my journey and keeps me honest. I still struggle with my self-esteem but it’s not nearly as crippling as it used to be.   Your comments and support mean the world to me.  The love you have shown me is tremendous and I want to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart.

With that said I wanted to do a  retrospect of my favorite outfits so far.   These outfits highlight me  becoming  more open to stepping outside my comfort zone and taking a risk.

On another note, if you live  in Philadelphia  or in the surrounding areas, please come out and support Curvy Closet’s event on Saturday September 1st.   The event looks like is going to be a lot of fun.  Plus there will be an opportunity to shop til you drop so check it out!

Have a wonderful day!

Casual Friday/Color Tribe

Happy Saturday everyone!

I first wore this colorful tribal print dress during Full
Figure Fashion Week. I was so excited about meeting my favorite bloggers I totally forgot to take an outfit pic! So my post today is to remedy that mistake.

If you don’t own a Calvin Klein dress, try one soon. Calvin Klein has been making plus size clothes for some time now and the quality of their dresses are outstanding. The dresses are not boring and outdated. They have classic work staples but include many pieces that are on trend. I’ve not been disappointed with the quality of the fabric and cut of their dresses. They get that plus size women want to look sleek and sophisticated whether they’re going to the office or hanging out with friends.

I apologize for my necklace being askew in the pic. I gotta remember to keep it classy! LOL

Have a wonderful weekend!

P.S. This dress comes with a belt but I didn’t wear it because I couldn’t find it in my closet! Whoops! Lol

Sandals: Steve Madden

Bracelet & necklace: Macys

Perfectly Pleated…Again!

Happy Hump Day all!

Since I’ve gotten over my hang up with pleats, I had to have this orange midi skirt from City Chic. This is my first purchase from City Chic and the skirt doesn’t disappoint. Online the skirt appears light orange but its darker in person. It fits true to size so there was no gap in the waist for me. It’s lined so it isn’t sheer or see through. The skirt is a good way to introduce color into your work wardrobe. . You can also transition it into the fall by wearing a cardigan or a v neck sweater with it .

I shopped my closet and found this Gap Outlet shirt that I had forgotten about (I know that’s bad!). The shirt has flecks of orange in it which goes well with the skirt. I added my yellow necklace because for some reason it works with the outfit. Plus I love this necklace and will use any excuse to wear it!

How would you wear a colored pleated skirt? Have a great evening!

Me and my buddy TJ!

Casual Friday/The Emancipation of Me

TGIF everyone!

When I woke up Thursday morning I was pleasantly surprised to see myself on the WordPress homesite as apart of “Freshly Pressed”. I was honored to have been selected. The amazing comments that followed made me feel even more grateful. I want to thank EVERYONE who viewed and/or commented on my “Perfectly Pleated” post. Your comments mean so much to me because this time last year I was not the confident, smiling woman you see. I didn’t like myself and would bombard myself with hurtful thoughts. The way I dressed mirrored how bad I felt inside. I would wear frumpy, unflattering clothes because I felt ugly and wanted to hide my body. This began to change after having surgery to remove a 20lb tumor from my abdomen in November 2011. As I recovered from my surgery at home, I did some real soul searching. The outpouring of love from family, friends and co-workers helped to me stop hating myself. I decided to banish all negative thoughts about myself. I threw every piece of frumpy clothing I owned in the trash. I was not going to be that Georgette anymore. I was going to be the Georgette I always knew lived in inside of me. From that point on, Ive never looked back and couldn’t be happier.

Again, thank you for being wonderful and have an awesome weekend!!!
