Travel Diary: Miami

TGIF all!

A couple of weeks ago my BFF and I went to Miami for our annual getaway.  While I’ve been to Miami twice before, this was my first time staying there.  The last two times I went to Miami was to go on cruises so I never got the opportunity to see what Miami offered.  Luckily I stumbled on a great deal from Travel Zoo for the  Kimpton Surfcomber (a marvelous boutique hotel) and we were on our way.  Miami was everything I expected it to be…bright, colorful and fun.  We spent five days relaxing at the pool or beach, sipping fruity cocktails and getting our tan on.  At night we hit some great restaurants  (you MUST go to Havana 1957 when in Miami) and cut a rug at a few spots including the super cool Bodega (we got into twerking contest with some young folks…LOL).  While there was fun and relaxation, we made sure to carve out time for sightseeing.  As someone who loves art, visiting the Wynnewood Walls was number one on my must do list and it did not disappoint at all. After checking out the walls we headed over to Wynnewood Yard for a drink and listened to some live music.  Getting around Miami wasn’t a problem because there were plenty of Lyft drivers around.  Apparently Lyft is cheaper than Uber there so we didn’t pay more than 9 bucks for a ride.

Although it was hot and humid, Miami was the perfect Summer getaway. I will definitely be back!

Have a wonderful weekend!

P.S. I only took a carry on suitcase for this trip! Yay me!

The next time you go to Miami try Puerto Sagua, 700 Collins for inexpensive, good Cuban food. They don’t take reservations. There can be lines at the more popular times. Also, download the freebee app (ridefreebee.com) Free rides throughout South Beach using electric transportation. You contact them through the app when you are ready to leave. You cannot make a reservation. One of the drivers will get back to you in minutes and pick you up. They work for tips. The rides are from noon until 2 am. The drivers are very friendly and knowledgeable.
