Reaffirmation

TGIF all!

This morning I was reminded how blessed I am for having wonderful women in my life. My blogger boos Sandra & Jeniese gently coaxed me back from the ledge and helped me to reaffirm why I blog. It’s very easy as blogger to get caught up and start comparing yourself to others.  You start thinking “I’m not stylish enough” or “I’m not creative enough” and slowly but surely it begins to erode your confidence. I had begun to feel the effects of comparing myself to other bloggers.  I was so busy being envious I temporarily forgot why I started blogging back in 2012.  Jeneise and Sandra’s strong and encouraging words  brought me back to where I need to be. They helped me to see that I should be refocusing that energy back to my blog and stop minimizing my accomplishments.  After talking to them I decided to let go of my envy and instantly I felt like a heavy burden had been lifted off me. All that negativity was holding me down and steering me away from my purpose.  Now I feel refreshed and renewed to continue to show that style has no age or size!

Since Fall is on it’s way out, here’s a roundup of my favorite outfits from the season.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks for posting this, it was really a great confrimation for me right now. I just started blogging and I am in that stage of comparing my blog and style and body to others, reading your post was uplifting. Today I will try harder not to be so hard on myself. THANKS!

One of the biggest challenges in blogging is staying true to yourself. It’s so easy to get caught up that we forget our uniqueness. You are special and have a voice that needs to be heard. Trust in that and you’ll be okay! 🙂

I love your blog! As a 40 something plus size woman seeing your style and ideas has given me the courage to try some things I never would have before! Keep it up, I look forward to seeing your new posts!

Thank you so much! Im glad my blog has helped you try new things! That’s so awesome!

Comparing yourself to anyone else is like comparing apples and oranges. We are all unique; we all have different talents and gifts. One saying I love is you can’t compare a first grader to a fifth grader. We are all at different levels of development and there is no comparison.

    • December 15, 2014 / 2:57 pm

You are absolutely right…we are all unique! 🙂

I think most women have this issue of always feeling others are “more perfect”. We are so hard on ourselves that it is difficult to find happiness and contentment. Stacy London said something very wise in her last book “Compare and despair”. You, my dear, are fabulous just as you are and when I see your smiling face and terrific outfits, it brightens up my day!

I agree with this comment 100%!!!

    • December 15, 2014 / 2:38 pm

Thank you so much! You hit the nail right on the head with this comment. I work on myself daily to be satisfied and content with what life has given me.

I love your blog even tho I don’t comment as much as I should to let you know. I too have been guilty of comparing but you know what now I did the same thing……my outfits are becoming more “basic” as I age because I’m not into club life and live a pretty normal lifestyle. There are always readers who will love what u do even if it’s not the most creative or unique. Keep doing what u do I happen to truly love your style.

Thank you so much for your support & love! I truly appreciate it…I do.

Grown and curvy you have inspired me every since I came across your blog. I counted 7 pics (I think :)) of why you should continue to your journey. You are a beautiful and humble lady and I am encouraged by you working through the challenges of life. I still have not had the confidence to even start my blog yet (and I signed on almost a year ago). That is true procrastination (not to mention a waste of my money!) I am glad you had lady friends to encourage you. Hang in there. You are making a difference!

Thank you SO MUCH!!! Your comment has truly made my day! Thank you!!!!

What a great post. I have culled my list of fashion bloggers I read to just a very few and always look forward to your posts. And oh the dangers of comparing…that is a slippery slope I find myself on too much.

    • December 15, 2014 / 2:34 pm

Thank you so much! Ive struggled with being satisfied with my life for years and comparing myself with others was weighing on me. Im fully committed to being satisfied and comfortable with where I am in life. It’s gonna be a hard road but we can do it!

So glad you are continuing to blog! I follow lots of fashion blogs and yours is truly my favorite! I love your upbeat styles for curvy ladies and your creative and refreshing use of color. Your posts are encouraging and inspiring to me as an over-40 plus size woman who has a realistic budget for fashion but wants to have fun as well. Your blog is unique and I can relate to it. Keep up the good work!

So glad to hear that your blogging gal pals helped you get back on track. This is something I struggle with and feel self-conscious about as well. My style is not as trendy or as chic and polished as I see on other bloggers, and sometimes I wonder if I’m not “with it” enough. But ultimately, my blog is about my style journey and my tastes, and they are what they are! The community of women I’ve connected with through blogging is really the best part, and I’m glad that you’ve found a great support system and network of friends through blogging as well.

I, for one, love that your style is feminine and accessible. You sport looks that I can see myself wearing, and you always inspire me with your color play and creative layering. My favorite look of this bunch? That pleated leather skirt with the bejeweled sweater. I would totally wear that one! Gorgeous!

You are wonderful! You are one of the first bloggers I discovered with a very strong sense of color, and I got so much inspiration from your posts to experiment, to keep trying… I think I told you this before, but I am happy to say it again because we all need reassurance at times. The best thing about you is that you are genuine. I just love your smile, I can tell just from your photos that you have such a good heart. Keep going. We are not perfect, but we are interesting and we are daring, and it inspires others. Have a great fun with your blog!!! xxxx

I am so glad your friends convinced you to keep on blogging! I enjoy your blog and love your style 🙂 I am just getting into fashion blogs and your style is so real and I feel like “hey that is a great look and something I to could wear.” Some of the blogs I follow, while pretty to look at, are just not a style I am comfortable with. I hope I said that right! Keep on blogging please!

    • December 15, 2014 / 2:15 pm

Thank you so much! Im happy you feel you can relate to my style. 🙂

Hi there. I just discovered you in Redbook. I think you are so fabulous and I almost fell over when I saw you are 42!! As a design blogger I completely empathize with feelings of unworthiness and self doubt. Im so happy you have a great support group to pull you back. I am a firm believer that comparison is the thief of joy. Dont let it cast negativity on your joy! Excited to be a new reader:)

    • December 15, 2014 / 2:14 pm

Thank you so much for your kind words. I completely agree with you when you say comparison is the thief of joy! Im going to use that as my new motto!
