Casual Friday: Midi Mania

TGIF all!

First I want to thank everyone who submitted suggestions in my last post. I meant so much to see how many people have taken interest in my blog.  So again… thank you!

Finding the right skirt for your body can be tricky.  For me over the knee skirts don’t work because of my shelf booty.  After having people tell me that they could see my Spanx from behind, I had to give them up.  So when the midi length trend ushered in a few of years ago, I quickly jumped on it.   I had finally found a skirt length that worked for my body. Midi skirts are a classic wardrobe staple and is perfect for someone who doesn’t like short skirts but still wants to show some leg (ME!).  They are flattering on women of all sizes and ages.  Now that the midi is here to stay, you can find them in a variety of colors and prints.  I like dressing up my midi’s with a blouse and dressing them down with a t-shirt and denim jacket.  Next time you wear your skirt, pair it with a cool sneaker or a peep toe pump for some variety.   If you are a little on the short side, a midi might be too long but try one anyway.  You can always have it hemmed to the length you desire.  Remember, fashion “rules” are meant to be broken. Wear what feels good to YOU!

Here are some  links to my favorite midi skirts: Simply Be, Talbots Woman, Modcloth, ASOS Curve, Eshakti, and Dorothy Perkins (they go up to size 18).

Have a wonderful weekend!

You mentioned that midi skirts look good on all women. I’m heavy-set and only 5’3″ Midi skirts make me look even chunkier than I am. Any tips on how to look a bit taller with this length skirt?

Thanks for commenting. The majority of midi skirts are A line shape which works on the majority of body types. I would suggest hemming the skirt to get it to the length you want if it looks too long on you. Another suggestion is wearing either a heel or wedge to give you more height in the skirt. I find that a pointed toe heel tends to elongate the leg. And you dont necessarily have to wear a high heel. A 2inch heel will do the trick! I hope this was helpful!

I agree about the skirt length. I’m short too (5’2″) and find that hemlines look best on me when they hit the middle of the calf, just like you did here. Matching shoes to hosiery also streamlines the look. Very pretty outfit!

Thank you so much! I completely agree that matching shoes to the hosiery streamlines the look and creates a longer looking leg!

You look Great here and not bothered by the weather. I have the worst legs marred by varicose so I only wear midi and long skirts. Yeah. . .for long skirts!

I really love your blog. I get so excited when I see an email of a new post on your blog. I just recently brought a striped pencil skirt from Target because of one of your post in your striped skirt. I’m thinking of pulling the sewing machine back out and making some skirts. My mom taught me when I was young but I stopped years ago. She use to make skirts to wear to work every week. She tried to make me wear some but I wouldn’t. Now I want to be like mom & you.
