Casual Friday/The Emancipation of Me

TGIF everyone!

When I woke up Thursday morning I was pleasantly surprised to see myself on the WordPress homesite as apart of “Freshly Pressed”. I was honored to have been selected. The amazing comments that followed made me feel even more grateful. I want to thank EVERYONE who viewed and/or commented on my “Perfectly Pleated” post. Your comments mean so much to me because this time last year I was not the confident, smiling woman you see. I didn’t like myself and would bombard myself with hurtful thoughts. The way I dressed mirrored how bad I felt inside. I would wear frumpy, unflattering clothes because I felt ugly and wanted to hide my body. This began to change after having surgery to remove a 20lb tumor from my abdomen in November 2011. As I recovered from my surgery at home, I did some real soul searching. The outpouring of love from family, friends and co-workers helped to me stop hating myself. I decided to banish all negative thoughts about myself. I threw every piece of frumpy clothing I owned in the trash. I was not going to be that Georgette anymore. I was going to be the Georgette I always knew lived in inside of me. From that point on, Ive never looked back and couldn’t be happier.

Again, thank you for being wonderful and have an awesome weekend!!!

  1. I love that color combination! I find as I get older, I’m more inclined to pair unlikely colors and have had people tell me they wouldn’t have thought of those two colors together. I’m not sure if that was a compliment or not, but I’ll take it as one!

  2. Well let me tell girl that positive thinking is paying off for you! your warm open smile will win hearts wherever you go. I hope that the universe contiunues to bring you happiness, good health and great happiness.

  3. I’d love your thoughts on how you know what colors to pair together. I’ve always shyed away from that and have been a pretty basic black + color, or denim + color girl, but I’ve seen a lot of great color combos (including yours!) and would love to get more adventurous. I’m just worried about looking like a clown. Any tips?

    • Trust me you wont look like a clown! Red and yellow are good colors to start with being more adventurous. Pair a red skirt or pant with a yellow top. Also green and yellow go well with one another. I go into my closet and start throwing things together to see how they will work. Youll be surprised at how many combos you can make with the clothes that you have.

  4. wow – such an incredible story, its remarkable and wonderful during your healing that you decided to honour yourself, you are one amazing woman! LOVE the colours on you, i need those colours in my wardrobe immediately!!! x

  5. Though I haven’t been here for the journey, I’m here to throw some support you way for having reached this (happier) milestone. By the way, you’ve DOMINATED colorblocking. (:

  6. Hi, I haven’t been reading your blog for long, but I am inspired by your sense of fashion and your smile that in every picture seems to radiate with true happiness, that only comes from within. I too was were you were and have grown to know that it’s nothing like loving and accepting yourself. God bless you and I look forward to your future postings.

  7. I love pink and yellow! They are my favorite colors! Props to you for being bold enough to wear them together! You look great!!!
